"Felt like Paradise, with a few exceptions"
Overall, we loved our stay in the jungle. Both the beach and the pool area were beautiful, tropical, and just what we were hoping for. There were a few things we didn't like, though. The guys selling things on the beach were much more overbearing than they were at the the Iberostar Lindo. It was almost constant. We were offered repeatedly things like jewelry, hats, parasailing, cigars, and even pot. They would walk away when we said no, but it was more than what we remember and it was probably because we were in Playa Del Carmen. We also didn't like the pressure we were getting from our concierge to attend a time share presentation. We told him no on the first day, but then we found an invitation under our door every morning to attend. That was annoying. Also, our room was not cleaned for the first two days we were there. We complained a few times and it finally got taken care of. Other than those things, we loved the rainforest setting, and the monkeys in the trees were a real treat!! We still had a great time!!

"The beach makes everything ok"
The check in/out desk is slow, they could use more people working during peak times. The grounds are wonderful. The pool is lovely but the varying degrees of volume on the music which mostly repeats the same set day after day is annoying. The 2 ft kid's pool is perfect to keep a small kid and margarita drinking parent happy day after day. There were usually other small kids around for the kids to interact with. The hotel seems sure whether its focus is family friendly or party friendly. Our first night in our room was a disaster. Room 213 closest to the concert/ event hall and front desk started in with the house music at 10pm and even worse mariachi band (my personal worst nightmare) started up at midnight and did not stop till 1am. No joke, it sounded like the band was inside our room. We were able to change to room 1611 the next day and the rest of our stay was fine. No more being woken up at night by music, only other hotel guests slamming doors and being loud in the doorway corridors. One of their excursion agents quoted us $89 per person for a day drip and on the next day another man quoted us $115 for the same trip - shady!! When I called him on the price change he got squirmy. A few staff members were wonderfully nice but most just doing their jobs. Food was just ok, drinks just ok. Despite all of the "just ok-ness" of this space, the beach is amazing and makes the marginality and affordability of this hotel worth the stay.

"Good but hate the constant "selling" of everything"
Traveled with my hasband, son, and daughter-in-law. Our room was okay but my son's was terrible. Filthy and A/C didn't work. They put a de-humidifier in the room to get rid of the smell and it only made the room hotter. The grounds are beautiful as was the beach. The food was good, only if you eat at the specialty restaurants. Otherwise it was buffet food. The best restaurants were the Brazilian, Italian and French. Unfortunately there was alot of construction going on, so things were a little confusing on where to go. The drinks were good but a little on the weak side. Room service was as any other hotel would provide and had limited items. The in-room mini bar was a help and was kept stocked most days. The system they use for the pool and beach towels is outright obsurd. They give you cards and you must give them to the towel person when you get a towel. sometimes the towel station was not manned and no towels available. If Unfortunately my husband came back with a bad rash and he found out that it is common to this area. For the most part, everyone at the resort was super friendly with the exception of that occasional person. The best part of our trip is when we went into town and ate at this awesome Mexican restaurant, La Perilla. Just had to get threw all the vendors on the street haggling you. We didn't see most of the entertainment but what shows we did see were enjoyable. If we go back to this area, we will probably stay at a different hotel. Maybe the Riu.

" A fantastic stay in Rivera Maya!"
Just returned from a week at the RIU Yucatan. There are two other RIU's plus the palace-all right by each other. Staying at Yucata allows you to visit the Playacar and Tequila resorts anytime that you like and eat-drink and use the facilities at no extra charge. The Yucatan proerty itself is a litte dated-but we quickly learned that the service, food and people that work there take great pride and made the vacation truly great. There are no ocean view rooms-so it really does not matter where you end up. Rooms have a fridge with beer and soda and there is the "Mini bar" with full sized bottels of Rum, Tequila, Vodka and Gin. We called the front desk for extra soda-and they arrived-much to my surprise...rooms are spotless and has an in room safe, walk in shower, large closet an ironing board, hairdryer etc. No reservations required at any specialty restuaraunt-except the Mexican. We ate at the steak place and italian-both were very good. No long pants required for men-but shorts and collared shirts. They have top shelf alcohol if you want-Jonnie Walker, Absolute, Captain Morgan, Appleton-you name it-but remember that you have to ask for it in your drink A cab ride to Playa Del Carmen is 90 Peso's each way. You are better off paying in Peso's for cab rides. A ferry ride to Cozmel will cost $200 Pesos-round trip. The Lobby bar is open 24 hours a day. On the day shift little Beatrice works the lobby bar-CALL HER BETTY and she will be your new BFF! THE STAFF IS INCREDIBLE!!
