Reasonable price close to town and FANTASTIC beach

Pros: The beach has a buffet, bar, pool, and bathroom. Everything you need with out being tacky and expensive like Riu Palace next door. Overall, great time
Cons: Bed is hard; ask for a mattress pad. Drinks are watered down. Rooms are small. Not enough food choice between 3pm and 7pm. Dinner served at 7pm.
Location: Take the bus into Playa del Carmen and visit Xaman-Ha ruins. Visit Mayan ruins. Enjoy the beautiful aqua ocean and visit a cenote. Snorkel w/ turtles!
Riu Lupita is a small hotel with only 200 or so rooms. It is not fancy but clean and well maintained. We enjoyed being in the jungle. We hardly heard any English which made our vacation feel even further from home. Lots of people from South America and Europe. We were some of the only Americans. (It was obvious from our modest swimsuits and pale skin.) The hotel has three pools (four if you include the children's pool). Nightlife was so-so; except Mayan night was really entertaining--great costumes and cool dances. Go with medium to low expectations, and you'll have a great time. This is not a five star resort but our group of two couples really enjoyed ourselves. This hotel is an excellent value. We enjoyed the overall layout of the hotel. Also, the bus, while not fancy, was always on time (on the half hour). We loved that it could drop us off at downtown Playa del Carmen, so you are not trapped at the hotel. Also, right near the bus stop are Xaman-Ha Mayan ruins that are really interesting to see. They are right along the wall, just keep walking down the path. They are free and you can walk all over them. The beach club is amazing. We just packed a bag, hopped on the bus, and relaxed. The hotel was full when we were there, and we never had too much trouble getting lounge chairs for four people. The beach club had fun activities like water aerobics and volleyball. We also rented free boogie boards one afternoon from Riu Palace. We used Scuba Caribe to snorkel; it was fun!

It was ok

Pros: Free breakfast, Quiet
The hotel was an all inclusive. The rooms, food and drinks were average, nothing really great. This would be a good budget hotel. Internet access was only available in the lobby.

Pros: Free breakfast, Free Internet, Quiet
Hotel was selected because out the crowded main road. Easily to reach other place even by foot ( 20 minutes walk was nice ). So it was quiet all the hours of the day. Shuttle bus easily available to get downtown. Also the service to rend motorcycle and bycicle was and added value

riu lupita has good amenities and a great staff

Pros: Free breakfast, Quiet, free meals and drinks
Cons: No free Internet, no free in-room safe
riu lupita was a wonderful warm winter getaway-not on the beach, but shuttle every 30 minutes would also stop at south end of town for strolling along 10th and 5th avenues. Had access to three other riu's with all their restaurants, bars pools, beaches everything except had to eat dinner at riu lupita and sleep there. I found the bed firm but comfortable, room was cleaned daily with clean sheets, towels, soap&shampoo.no view from balcony to speak of,but was close to the adults only pool which was nice.never a problem with finding plenty of vacant lounge chairs.never ran low in the mini-bar(beer water soda) Staff could not have been better.food was good-not 5 star and not on the beach and bar did not have as good of liquors as the other rius but did not pay nearly as much. would definetly recommend as an extremely good value, but if you must have a true 4 or 5 star experience this is not it.

This is an excellent hotel the staff made us feel welcome right away when we stepped into the registration office & the service and food are excellent

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Quiet
The experience at Riu Lupita was just great, compared with other hotels the price of the package was affordable. The food and service are excellent both at the hotel and at the beach club. The hotel location is really good because it is just five minutes walk from playa del carmen where you can enjoy the bautiful view and do your shopping. The hotel room was very clean and the staff were always on top of things. Also, the animation team makes a great job at entertaining guests they plan activities for the whole day. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend the hotel to my family and friends and I'm coming back for sure.

Good Resort for the Price

Excellent staff and very cheerful. I thought the food was kind of average for a all inclusive but we booked a great deal and was not expecting 5 star meals. The pool was nice and we did take a shuttle to their beach club which sits right next to the Riu Palace Riviera Maya. Nice beach. The hotel itself sits about a half mile inland and their is not much breeze in the summer so it does get hot if you are not in the pool. No air conditioning in either of their resturants. We did miss having pool waiters that we have had at other resorts but once again we had a great deal here and we did enjoy our stay.

Great price for a great family vacation

Cons: No free Internet
We weren't sure what to expect, this being our first vacation of this sort. We were pleasantly delighted with our stay at the Riu Lupita. It wasn't right on the beach, but we actually appreciated this fact. All you had to do was get on a shuttle bus that left every 30 minutes and take a short ride to the beach. We enjoyed this aspect because then it actually felt like you were going somewhere. We enjoyed the food - unlimited supplies of fresh fruit all day was quite a treat! Asian night was definitely our favorite theme night at the buffet. The sushi was delicious! The age range of our party was from age 1 to age 52 and everyone had a wonderful time!

Good for 1st time in Cancun

Even though the hotel is small, it's very nice. The staff were very nice and willing to help you out. The room was very cleaned, we even got towel animals made each time. We had booked our activities prior to going to cancun, but there is a booking agent there. The pools were a decent size and the water was good temperature. The entertainment staff were really friendly and always tried to include you in the activities. The drinks were ok, they could have been better. Most of the drinks we tried had an after taste to them and we noticed the pop did too, but we just assumed it had to do with the water they used. We liked the fact that we got a minibar in the room filled with bottled pop, beer and water. Overall our stay was very comfortable and relaxing. This hotel is not a party party hotel as there were mostly families there.

WONDERFUL, Wonderful, wonderful

My husband and I travel about 3-4 times a year and this trip was the best one by far! The hotel was very clean and our room was just as it appeared on the website. The staff was very, very friendly and helpful! This hotel is not located on the beach but is just a 10min shuttle ride away. Also, we found out on our last couple of days if you walk through the golf course you can be at the beach in about 3-5mins. So if you want to take a walk on the beach after the shuttle stops running just walk! The private beach club was beautiful and the food was amazing!! Also, make reservations at the restaurant because the food there is better than the buffet (buffet was ok). You can also visit the other rui hotels in the area where you are allowed to eat and drink as if you were at the Lupita, we took a day and saw all of the other hotels, is was good to see the different ones but I like Rui Lupita the best! This was an awesome place to stay and the cheaper price was just a bonus! We will defiantly be back!!
