Staff was very helpful and friendly. Property was clean and welcoming. Food was mediocre. Need more non-water activities. Resort activities could have been promoted better.

Pros: The employees were friendly that is about it.
Cons: Clean the seaweed from the beach and it might be improved and the food selection in the buffet needs to be improved.
The food was horrible same food everyday in the morning and at night. There is no beach unless you are a premier club member on the other side of the hotel for regular guests like myself and my family there is small area next to the bridge that separates the beaches and it has rocks and seaweed. There is no hotel night life. I do not recommend you to waste your money there. Guests got hurt in the hotel because there were no wet floor signs and they took about an hour to call the medics to treat the guest. HORRIBLE HOTEL!!!!!

Don't reccomend

Very disappointed and not recommended for a young group of people. The beach is small and the water is dirty- no clear blue waters here and it smells. Entertainment is poor, the bars shut down at 5pm. When there is an event going on, no one shows up. Definitely not a party place. It's meant strictly for families or retirement age groups. The rooms are new and updated. Food is just okay. Unfortunately would not come back.

Not as good as it looks

We just came back from a one week vacation at tres rios. The facility is first rate, The staff is excellent. They go out of their way to make your stay the best experience it can be. The food was terribly disappointed. If you like a cheap Las Vegas Casino buffet, hamburgers, hot dogs, and pizza you'll be fine. There is no authentic Mexican cuisine. At the authentic Mexican restaurant we a had lobster tail (like red lobster), at the Italian restaurant we had grilled shrimp (like red lobster), At the breakfast buffet you can get frozen hash browns like McDonald's. The beach was horrible. The water was brown and the beach was small. TERRIBLY DISAPPOINTED.

Would recommend it

Stayed at Hacienda Tres Rios for 5 days and had a great time. Travelled with my husband and 3 kids. We were given a studio room which was a little too small for 5 of us. You need a 2 bedroom suite for that many people. The view was not too great. We saw a lot of mangrove from our balcony and you have to really stretch your eyes and body to see the ocean. The resort has ocean view rooms but I guess they were at a premium price. The kids play club needs an upgrade and retooling. It was unimpressive. Wi Fi is a challenge to get a hold of as it seems the traffic was too much for the bandwidth they had. Nighttime activities were limited and could do with a little more variety. The beach could do with some work as the water was laden with mangrove roots which made the water seem black rather than blue. There is also a shallow area with clear water but it was way too shallow to be considered a beach, it was more of a lagoon. There could also be more motorized sports to compensate for the poor beach facilities. On the positive side the food was very good with an appropriate mix. The staff was always warm, friendly, cooperative and responsive. They seem to love their jobs and enjoy what they do.  The room was clean and well kept. Room service was prompt and the mini bar replenished on time every day. Drinks of all types were in plentiful supply and readily available. Calls to the front desk were dealt with promptly and we were treated very well. Overall I would recommend this resort to anyone travelling with kids looking for relaxing and fun vacation.

Loved the Resort

Pros: staff, beds, area
Cons: noisy when weddings time limit for that like 11;0
My husband & I went in May , 2012, We were 1st. put in a rm . near the garden, but was later moved to one with a better view & balcony. The staff was great, and ready to help you when you needed anything, drinks , etc. Loved the idea of the adult pool. Food was okay, some better then other's. We liked the Italian the best , also the pizza, sooo good. The cafe by the adult pool also very good. The timeshare thing could go a miss, but no pressure. We will be going back.

Amazing - can't wait to get back to Tres Rios!

My husband and I were there November 2010 and LOVED Hacienda Tres Rios. The staff is wonderful - they pampered us, ordered for us and remembered us each day. At night we found special treats in our room such as wine and cheese, apples, chocolates. The beds were the most comfortable of any place we have stayed at any other resort in Mexico. The pool was wonderful as well as the staff at the pool. We ordered one time in the morning and the rest of the day they would bring us drinks before we even asked. The food was delicious - the buffet was not as big as other resorts but the the quality more than made up for the quantity. As for the sales presentation - they were very pleasant, no high pressure. We will go back at least once a year! We are going back in November 2011 and can't wait to get there.

Overpriced & overrated - will not return

Just returned from a 7-day stay at the Hacienda Tres Rios resort. The pros: Rooms & hotel are very clean and beautifully appointed. Emphasis on environmental sustainability. Informative nursery tour. Front desk & curbside staff friendly and helpful. Security checks everyone going in & out, so guests can feel pretty secure that there's not anyone on the property that shouldn't be there. If you are travelling with young children, this place is completely oriented towards you. The cons: Slow, unresponsive waitstaff poolside (except the small adults-only area) and in the restaurants. Expect to wait a minimum of 45 minutes from the time you place your order to the time you receive it (and don't be surprised if they get it wrong). Don't bother tipping, you won't get any better service than those that don't. If you are looking for a relaxing, adult-oriented atmosphere - this is definitely NOT the place for you. In fact, the hotel rulebook goes so far as to state that you are not allowed to have guests of the opposite sex that are not traveling with you in your room (how they monitor for this, I don't know). Heavy emphasis on timeshare selling and inability to go to a "sister" resort without paying a $* per person day pass or spending half a day in a sales seminar. Usually, day passes to area resorts owned by the same company are free. The in-betweens: Food & drink quality was average - nothing particularly bad but nothing particularly good either. Hotel is about a half-hour drive from Playa del Carmen, where there is abundant shopping and restaurants, but an hour drive away from Cancun and many popular tourist activities (i.e. Mayan ruins, young-adult oriented nightlife).

This hotel was amazing!

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet
My husband and I took our 18 year old daughter to the Hacienda Tres Rios hoping for a place she could relax and have fun and be safe - Tres Rios exceeded our expectations. Employees were more than accomodating - they were always smiling and ready to please. The resort felt safe and secure leaving my husband and I able to relax and enjoy the vacation without being overly protective of our daughter. The facility also offered a great array of activities to please everyone. Everything we wanted or needed was available right on the grounds. A concierge helped us plan all other activities we participated in off grounds, giving us ideas on where to go, what to see and what to expect. We are definately planning on taking our son there when he graduates next year!

Our stay at Tres Rios.

Overall we had a good stay at Tres Rios. Resort is beautiful, grounds are immaculate, rooms are extremely modern and updated. Service is great but the food is just ok. We're beginning to think great food at an all inclusive, doesn't happen. Pool was extremely cold, beach was not great for walking/swimming, but beds by the beach were nice to lounge in. It's definitely a quieter resort. Not much going on by the pool or in the evening. They do usually have live music in the lobby at night but it's usually done by 10:30. Its a 10-15 minute cab ride to town and it costs about 13 dollars each way. We loved the town of playa at night. Something to do for everyone. Great restaurants, good nightlife, shopping, hookah lounges and yes, starbucks. For restaurants, we loved Cenacolo for great Italian and a nice bottle of wine and Los Carniceros for great casual. Burgers and great meat. We were a little bothered that they wouldn't work with us when our flight home was cancelled after staying there a week, especially when the hotel seemed fairly empty. We left and stayed the extra night in cancun for half the price. Overall tres rios is a good value, I'm not sure if Im in a rush to get back but I would definitely recommend it for people headed to that area.
