A gorgeous property with delicious food, great amenities and events and offerings throughout the week, beautiful spots for relaxing, romantic picturesque property. I really appreciate the layout of the resort, the way the buildings and architecture match the local style and esthetic, and the high quality furniture, linens, etc. We had a wonderful time!

This comment will only apply to a few quests, but the facility only hasone restaurant that is handicap accessible. Some restaurants had one step, some had two or three and one had too many to count. The hotel does not have ramps to assist people in a mobility cart.

This is a beautiful hotel with amazing customer service. It gives a smaller more romantic feel if you are looking for an all inclusive but do not want that huge resort experience. The beach was amazing the food and drinks were fantastic and there are not enough great things to say about how you are treated by that staff and everyone working there. You truly are treated like royalty. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a quiet relaxing trip at an amazing resort

This is not a 4 stat hotel...maybe 2 or 3

Cons: No free Internet, Poor breakfast
I was very disappointed with this hotel. I have been to many 5 star hotel and this hotel does not even come close! The answer I got to most of my requests was "no." I wanted to take some chips and salsa to eat at the beach on my beach bed, and they said it is against there policy to give me food to take to the beach...what? They deliver drinks on the beach, but this all inclusive will only allow you to eat any food in the restaurants. The food by the way was not good at all, dinner being the worst, almost inedible. We had to go into town 3 nights for dinner to get good food. They had a big tank with lobsters, but if you want to have a small lobster for dinner than that is an extra $60 charge. Also, the wifi cost $70 to use for the week. The beach is very nice, which is about all this hotel has going for it. But if you want a beach bed you have to go out around 7 in the morning to reserve it because they are all taken by 8:00. Also, they are trying to sell you into their club membership which will allow for discounts and better service at their hotels. So what ends up happening is that if you are not in this club, you get poor service, and if you are in the club, you are taken good care of. The member ship for the club is over $10,00. The rooms are fine, but they have one buiding that is like a huge apartment building that they put us in, telling us it was an upgrade. Well, the location of it was terrible and we wanted to move, but of course the answer was "no". When I asked for a late check out again "no." My advice is that if you want a 3 star hotel than this is fine, but if you really want a five star hotel with great service and an amazing beach, stay down the road at the Maroma hotel which is an orient express hotel. The hotel el dorado, is really a waste of money and has nothing to offer other than a nice beach...and no eating on the beach or at the poolside, which is not okay.

The perfect "get a way" for a stress free rest, in this tropically gorgeous enviromental friendly setting.

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Quiet, superb meals facilities service staff, all inclusive, personalized attention
Cons: No free Internet, kayaks need to be available all day
If you are an adult who loves the Caribbean Sea, the Mexican sunshine and hospitality, the serene tranquility of palm trees and swinging in the hammocks, you will want to visit this all inclusive resort. The staff and service is excellent, and all of them smile and greet you, while being non- intrusive but ready to assist you in any way, at any time or setting in the resort.

The staff is outstanding

Pros: Free breakfast, Quiet, all inclusive meals, very good food in the restaurants provided
Cons: Nothing close, No free Internet, limited dinner restaurants
Very secluded, quiet, relaxing beautiful hotel with a lovely white sand beach. Each of the staff makes you feel welcomed at goes out of their way to be honestly friendly and helpful. If you want "Party Central" the El Dorado Maroma is not for you.

Paradise Found

My wife and I have traveled across the world, stayed at some of the finest hotels and are admittedly spoiled. After six nights at El Dorado Maroma we found our new private paradise! We stayed in the dead of summer following the totally silly Swine Flu scare, so occupancy was only about 50%. It felt like everywhere we turned, someone from the staff was waiting with a smile to see how they could help. No buffets here, thank goodness, only fine dining in your choice of Italian, Mexican and Asian restaurants. We especially enjoyed the ASIAN restaurant where we ended up spending four of our six evenings. Absolutely wonderful! If you go, make sure you book a newer room. They obviously have been designed for romance, which can be said for the entire resort. With less than 80 rooms, La Maroma delivers a quaint hotel experience with service very close to a Ritz Carlton without the outrageous prices. Try the swim-up rooms or the Honeymoon Suites. They include candles, oil burners, flat screen TVs and extraordinary views. We especially enjoyed the beach staff which was always there with a cool towel, a cold drink of PREMIUM alcohol and incredibly attentive service. Mess up your towel on your beach chair? Not to worry. Within minutes, someone will shake off the sand and straighten the towel. The beach beds, featuring canopies of gently moving palm fronds, set the stage for total relaxation. A beautiful beach with soft white sand where hardly a soul could be found on long walks, makes this resort even more special. And the fact that no children are allowed makes the experience extra remarkable! Let me clarify that we are in our mid-fifties and were not looking for exciting evenings. We would go to diner in casual attire, feast until about 9:30, then take in some TV in our room and play for a bit, and then gently pass out in very comfy beds. This is NOT a resort for night owls looking to party. It IS very much a resort to bring out the romance in the lives of newlyweds and those married for many years like us. We loved our first experience at La Maroma so much; we have reservations for October of this year. Twice in three months…..that says it all! Caution: Some of the Honeymoon Suites are on the 4th floor and there are no elevators. If you don’t want to walk off your gourmet meals up the steps each night, ask for a lower level room. Don’t bother: Renting a car. No need. We never left the resort and there was nothing nearby that warranted a car rental. Don’t: Get taken by greedy taxi drivers. Call ahead to the travel desk on the property and ask them to order you a private taxi. We paid $80 from Cancun Airport to the resort when we arrives and only sixty on the return trip which was set up by the travel person on site. DO: Leave your laptop at home and prepare to totally relax!

Beautiful beach

We stayed for one week last month. The beach is beautiful white sand and the area faces slightly south so it is more sheltered than other areas along the coast. The new infinity pool rooms are large and very nice although they are four stories high with no elevators. I liked these rooms better than the El Dorado Royale casita suites. With less than eighty rooms the resort is very small and quiet. Definitely not party central so if you are looking for excitement go somewhere else. There are three restaurants plus a beach grill a couple of times a week. The restaurants are good but with limited menus. My biggest complaint was that they overdo the gourmet presentation. You might have to order two entrees to get a real dinner. The staff was very good except for some confusion at breakfast and lunch. There are lots of beds along the edge of the beach and enough lounge chairs but not many palapas on the sand for shade. We didn't see inside the older Hotelito rooms but we liked the fact that their balconies all had curtains for privacy. They all face the pool whereas the new units are mostly ocean view. This hotel is definitely on our list for another trip.

This Beach is not all it's cracked up to be

The hurricane was not kind to this area, and the beach may have been top 40 at one time, it is now not very good. The beaches in Cuba are many times over better than this beach. Even the dark sand beach in the Domiican or the white sand of Punta Cana is way better. As for the resort, bring lots of books, because there is absolutley nothing to do on this resort. The owner owns the seadoo rental, touring boats and horses next door. But on this resrot there isn't anything to do.
