We chose this area for the beach but found this resort disappointing as it was not maintained like surrounding resorts. Food options were limited, many repeat items at various restaurants, below average quality. While some staff were friendly and helpful, most were not. Facilities were decent and clean. Will not return to a Catalonia resort after this experience.

Catalonia Playa Maroma is located on the most beautiful beach! The wedding we attended was beautifully done! The service and staff were great! The facilities did have a lot of bug & some cockroaches, however, this is to be expected in an indoor-outdoor living concept. The property does also require reservations for all of the restaurants, except the buffet. Overall, our experience at Catalonia Playa Maroma was amazing & we really enjoyed the resort!

The brightly coloured 3 to 4-storey villas are so wonderful and a nestled in foliage, with the resort aiming to preserve as much of the natural environment and plants around the area as possible and the paths are beautifully lit, especially in the evenings. Staff at the resort are fantastic and work very hard to ensure everyone has a great time.

Catalonia is an absolutely gorgeous property. The hotel rooms are well maintained and I haven’t ever seen such attention to cleanliness of all facilities. The staff are all wonderful. So kind, welcoming and accommodating. The beach offered plenty of shade and tons of lawn chairs. However the water was incredibly rough (not the hotels fault) so we couldn’t enjoy the water. My only complaint was the food. We loved the Grill but found the other restaurants and the buffet mediocre at best. We had a very difficult time finding food options we liked. We really aren’t picky people but the food was an issue. The property has tons of wildlife and seeing them was such an experience. There is a resident monkey named Raul who posed for pictures, the caotis, wild boars and iguanas as well as birds and butterflies. My kids loved making friends by the beautiful pool. If the food was better this resort would easily be 5 stars. We will absolutely consider coming back on our next trip to Mexico.

Loved the natural jungle feel of this resort. There are animals to see all over. The resort feels very peaceful and is fantastic for families. The food was great both at the buffet and at the restaurants. Lots of staples the kids like, but also theme nights to try something new. Spent a lot of time on the beach under the shade of palm trees. Will return!!!

This hotel was great for our family trip. The room was clean and adequate size. The food options were vast and all very tasty. The beach access was easy and beautiful. Staff were also quite friendly and helpful. Our kids loved the pool. There were shallow areas and deeper areas and it was quite large so you didnt feel on top of anyone. The property is huge so if you are in a building closer to the pool prepare for a long walk to and from breakfast in the dining hall. It's a scenic walk so we didnt mind. Also, this may be a pro or a con depending but we loved the various wildlife around the facility.. particularly the Coatis, just watch your meal or they may steal it! It's not really walking distance to anything so you would need a car or tour bus if you want to go exploring outside of the resort. Good value for money
