Maroma, a privately owned beach, is located in the Mexican State of Quintana Roo along the southeastern coast of the Caribbean Sea. There are no hotels on the actual beach since the land between the highway and the beach used to be mainly jungle—the only access was from the sea. You can gain access to the beach by one of the private resort entrances for a breathtaking experience.

Exploring Quintana Roo

Hotels by Maroma are typically in Playa del Carmen, and there is more to do here than you can imagine. Take the whole family swimming with dolphins; tour ancient Mayan ruins; or enjoy coral reefs, a butterfly garden, or aviary. Go zip-lining in the jungle or shop along Fifth Avenue for local arts and crafts. Take a 45-minute ferry across the sea to Cozumel Island and visit Chankanaab National Park to see different varieties of tropical fish. In the main neighborhood of San Miguel, you can find live music and black bean soup with fish tacos to fill your stomach. Burn off any vacation calories by heading north to Cancun, where you can dance the night away in a swanky resort nightclub or a beach cabana.

"We've been to four different all inclusive resorts (Riu, Secrets, and now two through Excellence) and the Excellence Brand is by far our favorite. We stayed at the Beloved in March of this year and just got back from Excellence Riviera Cancun. Beloved was great for a short couples retreat while a five day stay with friends @ Riviera was perfect. We love that there is no sales pitch at the beginning of the stay at any Excellence. Riviera Cancun has amazing food. The breakfast buffet was the best buffet we've had, the lunch & dinner options were all also all so good. My husband loves Indian food and went back to Basmati twice for Indian food. The naan and butter chicken were his favorites but nothing was bad. The martini bar in the main lobby building had amazing drinks. We booked the Teppanyaki experience for dinner and even with a pickier eater with us, all 6 of us enjoyed it. The hotel offers many planned events and one we are so glad we did was the bike tour. A staff member leads the way about 2.5 miles off resort on a well paved service road to a downtown shopping area where you can get out and shop/take pictures for about 30 minutes and then head back. It was a nice 1.5 hour activity! The beach is very important to us. While we enjoyed the beach at Beloved (Playa Mujeres) more, this beach is still nice. Here you'll still get a few vendors popping in to ask if you want a massage or cigar but they didn't annoy us. Overall 10/10 and we plan to be back!"

"The only thing that could have been better is the ocean. Due to this year's seaweed season being so bad the beach had a red flag out the entire stay and the seaweed was bad. One person said they waded through the seaweed to get to the water but we did not. We could see it all the way up and down the coast line for miles."
