Miami Spectator Sports

Into baseball? Football? Basketball? Whatever it is that floats your sports boat, Miami has it in spades.

Miami's beautiful weather year round makes all kinds of outdoor activities pretty appealing. Perhaps that's part of the reason sports are such a cornerstone of the local culture here. But as well as football and baseball, there are plenty of opportunities to take in some indoor spectator sports too, with basketball and ice hockey being local favorites.

After all your time spent surfing, waterskiing or lounging on Miami's stunning beaches (that's a sport, right?) you deserve to chill out and watch someone else run around for a change. Here are three of Miami's top spectator sports, the best places to see them, and the teams that play there. Better start resting your voice now, you're going to need it for all that cheering.

Baseball in Miami

  • The Miami Marlins are the Major League team to get excited about. And before you ask: yes, their mascot is a fish.
  • The Marlins' home stadium is Marlins Park, famed for its snazzy design and swish retractable roof.
  • Make a night of it at Clevelander Marlins Park, the on-site club that sits in left-field. Watch the game and revel in the Miami good life.

Football in Miami

  • The Marlins aren't the only aquatically inspired team in the neighborhood. Make like the locals and become a dedicated Miami Dolphins fan.
  • If the timing's right, catch the Dolphins on their home ground, the Hard Rock Stadium.
  • Don't worry if you miss out; you can still get that Hard Rock experience on TV. The stadium will be the site of the Superbowl in 2020.

Basketball in Miami

  • Miami HEAT's games are as sizzling as their name. It's no wonder courtside seats are like gold dust.
  • The HEAT are not to be messed with. The proof? Their spectacular all-time win-loss record, which is surpassed only by the Boston Celtics.
  • The team calls the American Airlines Arena home. When there's not a game on here, there's often a big-name music act on the schedule.
