We stayed at The Reef Coco Beach in Playa del Carmen and upgraded to the Premium package—definitely worth it! From the moment we arrived, the service felt elevated. We were greeted with a welcome drink and a bottle of wine in the room, and the minibar was restocked daily, which was a great touch. The beach is beautiful and steps away, though a bit narrow in places. The VIP bar (Bar & Mar) was perfect for relaxing with premium cocktails in a more private setting. Having access to the Japanese restaurant Samurai was a highlight—delicious food and fun teppanyaki-style cooking. We also loved that we could use the amenities at the sister resort (Reef Playacar)—they even included the shuttle!

Fabulous location- clean - beachfront- pretty environment- easy access to go out and explore Playa del Carmen which was really why we stayed here- and that was the best part! It is a lovely hotel but it is also a vacation club so you have to deal with the assault of “ options” to be a “ gold member” or upgrade to all inclusive- and the whole “ buffet scene” was less than delicious. Drinks were also cheap liquor unless you’re a “ gold member”and the swim up bar- that was like a bad scene from the love boat!!

Horrible. Check Google for reviews. There’s not enough space on here to put my review. The resort itself is beautiful has a nice pool and plenty of seating around. Booked private pick up from airport and he was 20 minutes late so we got bombarded with taxi solicitors. When we arrived at resort, we were told there was an upgrade if we wanted top shelf or Japanese restaurant, but I had already paid the upgrade online so I’m a little confused. Food was disgusting. You have two places to eat the snack bar or the buffet otherwise you have to find a time that you fit in the restaurants because they only take six people at a time. The hibachi used fajita beef. Resort Staff was rude. Drinks were gross tasted like sweet n low with water. The snack bar must use soy burgers. The hotdog was an oversized Vienna sausage. Bar refused to give us a cup of water because they didn’t open for another 20 minutes. Bed was like sleeping on floor. Pillows were over stuffed. Room smelled like sewage and sulfur. There’s no daily entertainment besides water aerobics. There’s no night entertainment besides for an hour at 9 PM. In the end, this place is called Leading Vacation Club & they will waste a day of your vacation trying to sell you a timeshare for $40-90k because you have to have breakfast with them & then go listen to them in a room and you already missed the departure for an excursion.After declining to buy it the people that acted like they were your best friends never acknowledge you again.

The property was awesome. Inside was perfect. There was a bar, staff was attentive and i was able to schedule my tours there in the lobby. The pool has a bar, staff was friendly and wuick to serve. They have activities like ping pong, you can play golf, the pool is open until 9pm. Food was delicious.

Do not stay here!

I had to check out of the hotel early because the bed was rock hard. When I tried getting service at the pool side snack bar it took forever. Within two hours of being there, we wanted to check out. The beach in front of the hotel is a marina...not appealing. There was seaweed everywhere on the beach and it smelled. The hotel receptionist was nice and when I went back up to say i was checking out, she helped me and told me I was going to get a refund for the 7 nights. I had booked 9 nights and there was a penalty for checking out early of one night (which was fine). However, after repeated attempts they have not issued my refund on my credit card!!! i incorrectly booked the room for 2 adults and one child...my child was 10 and forgot to change his age and it said he was 2 yrs old. again fine, i needed to pay $360 cash for 9 nights at $40/nt. When i checked out that same day, they refunded me for 7 nights $280...again, okay. but it's been 4 weeks now and I'm still awaiting for my refund for the 7 nights. Hotels.com has been absolutely terrible in helping me with this issue as well. Ever since Expedia bought them out, the service with hotels.com is almost as terrible and the Reef Coco. hotel manager reading this review, please make this right and honor your word of giving me a refund. Also, I can tell your reviews are bot reviews...stop paying for bots to boost up your review ratings.

I was very unhappy with the room we were staying. There was issues with the sink. We had reported it to the front desk. But it seems like they didn’t care. We were in water in the bathroom for three days. Until finally someone came to the bathroom and take care of it the problem…….than two days before our check out date employees after employees keep asking what time we we’re going to check out. It was annoying because we were just trying to relax!!! Overall I will give you nothing, but complains!!!!

My family and I stayed at the resort for six days. It is very quiet but pleasant. We liked everything it offers. The only bad thing is that we couldn't enjoy the beach which looks very dirty due to the sargassum. It has easy access to Fifth Avenue, very convenient for walking and enjoying. For me, the best thing was the food at the buffet restaurant, it offers a wide variety of food and it was very good. Our host, Grecia, was very friendly at all times, making us feel very comfortable when enjoying our meals. I highly recommend her. I can recommend this resort. If you just want to enjoy the pool, you can go anytime, but if you want to enjoy the beach, it is best to go from March to April, or travel to Cozumel by ferry!

The resort was very nice and cozy. Although it’s not very large, it felt safe and easy to navigate — which was perfect for both my parents and young kids. Day 1: From transportation to check-in, everything went smoothly. All the staff we encountered were friendly, professional, and welcoming. Day 2: We learned that restaurant reservations are made daily, which meant waking up early just to secure a spot. We got up at 6:30 AM only to find that the Japanese restaurant was already fully booked. Surprisingly, the front desk was able to book us a reservation for the following day, which felt misleading considering we were told reservations are same-day only. Because of this confusion and inconsistency, I deducted one star. Departure Day: Unfortunately, our experience ended on a bad note. Our airport driver was unprofessional — driving unsafely while using his phone, which made us feel very uncomfortable. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, especially when guest safety is at risk. Deducting another star for this. Overall, the resort itself is beautiful and the staff (aside from the driver) were great. Despite the issues, we will definitely come back again — hoping for improvements next time.
