How to get through airport security fast when traveling to San Juan
If you like the idea of spending more time at the airport cafes and less time navigating your way through security on your way to San Juan, follow these handy tips:

  • Keep your boarding pass and travel ID easily accessible. They'll be the first things you'll be asked for by security staff.
  • It's useful to know that belts with metal buckles can set off the body scanner's alarms. If you have one on, you may be told to take it off before continuing.
  • Laptops, digital cameras and other electronic devices must be placed in separate bins to be X-rayed.

The charms of Puerto Rico's capital are apparent even from the air. Azure waters front historic buildings, which eventually give way to tropical foliage. Flights to San Juan end up at Luis Munoz Marin International (SJU), named for the writer and statesman who is considered the "Father of Modern Puerto Rico." Transportation from SJU

You have several options for reaching your accommodations once you arrive from your San Juan flight. Larger hotels, especially those outside town, may send shuttles to you; you can also rent a car from kiosks in the airport. Expect to take free transportation to pick up your vehicle, since it will be parked away from the terminals, and remember that limos fitting up to six passengers are also available; their drivers will meet you outside baggage claim. Those with lots of time and little money can take the 40 or 45 bus to Isla Verde and the 5 bus to Old San Juan. After you've settled into your room, take a tour of the historic area, or relax on the beaches of casual Ocean Park, happening Condado, or family-friendly Escambron.
