I loved my stay. Charming hotel, great staff. The late checkout was a plus! However if you value hot water and soft towels this might not be the place for you.

Excellent service from the staff member 100/10. Also very clean place. Amazingly located and surrounded by a lot of good places to eat and explore. It also includes a complimentary bar that includes alcohol at the lobby, that’s a super perk. I’d love my stay here and definitely we are going to visit again.

Great location the walk up is tough w bags

Very good location . The bar in the lobby with drinks came in very handy it was a nice touch especially when coming back from walking around. The no elevator part on a 4 story walk up very large flights of stairs with bags kinda dampened the stay. When I checked in there was no one to help but another guest saved the day . When I checked out the front desk staff helped. the staff was nice mentions to the housekeeping girl with the curly hair and the young at the front desk that always wears a jacket were both very nice and the front desk staff were as accommodating and they could be and very knowledgeable. The room had a few things going on with it but the what’s app messaging helped communicate w staff and they took care of it. I would’ve loved a bit of flexibility with the check out allowing at least 1 hour later at least.

Front desk staff was wonderful at check in and throughout our one night stay. Open bar was also a really nice amenity. I was able to find parking for our rental car a couple of blocks away so parking was not a problem for us. I expected the family room (think it’s called deluxe) to have a little more privacy and separation based on the photos, but it wasn’t a big issue since we were only there one night. We enjoyed the rooftop sitting area as well. Overall, we would recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

El Colonial was highly rated and unfortunately we didn't have an exceptional experience. Check in was smooth and we were greeted with hospitality and a fresh cocktail. The hotel is centrally located in Old San Juan and is conveniently close to everything. The esthetics of the hotel is beautiful but we didn't like our room. Although I'm sure the room was clean, it still has a dirty appearance and it's extremely small even for two people with luggage. They charge for things like makeup on the linen and flushing tissue in the toilet. After three layovers and long day we were met with a cold shower and that was the deal breaker for us. The rooftop needs renovations. The three hot tubs on the rooftop are advertised as hot tubs but really they are bath tubs with a shower head outside and there's no hot water so it's false advertisement. We checked out after spending less than 24 hours at the hotel and went to another hotel. One thing I can say is that although no sincerity was shown for our inconveniences, we were able to get a refund for the remainder of our trip. Unfortunately, we will not return to this hotel but there's plenty of beautiful places around to stay.

We enjoyed our stay at El Colonial. Great location. Very clean. The balcony and the street view was definitely worth it!! We could see El Morro from our apartment. If you can get past the 4 flights and no stairs, it’s a lovely hotel. We’ll be coming back!

Probably the BEST customer service I have ever had in a hotel. I will book a room here anytime I travel to PR in the future. The location is great, the room was clean, they have an open bar for guests but what won me over was the incredible, friendly and super caring staff! Thank you for making our stay (and my boyfriend’s first Puerto Rico visit) memorable for all the right reasons.

Staff was very friendly and super helpful. Anything I needed they were able to help me lightning fast. I will definitely stay here again! As they state there is no elevator so do not bring luggage you will not be able to carry up flights of stairs… free bar with sodas, waters, coffee etc is open 24/7 and was an excellent perk. My favorite part of the hotel is the rooftop terrace above the 4th floor. There was rarely anyone else up there and had a great breeze and views.

Love it! We wanted to stay in the old San Juan to complete our trip, and we are so glad we found the Colonial! The staff was absolutely amazing, the rooms were clean, and the rooftop was nice. Be aware that, like many others in the area, this is a boutique kind of hotel in a historic building, which makes the experience great but don't expect a spacious, super modern room. This space was perfect to explore the area, because let me real, if you are in san juan, you want to spend time outside the room so this is great for that. We thought it was cool that they had an open bar, but they didn't even have puertorrican rum, just cheap rum, vodka and very cheap wine, but my husband liked that they had Medalla, just not anything I could drink, so don't expect anything fancy there. Overall great, and we will for sure return!
