Downtown Honolulu Hotel Guide\n
Honolulu’s island, Oahu, is different things for different people. For some, it is a honeymoon destination. For others, a simple bucket-list item to be checked off. Or sacred ground for the surfing world’s elite. For you, though, Hawaii is a playground offering multiple climates, a thumbprint on history, and unique native cuisines—all of which beg you to investigate. Whether you are planning on a room at the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort or one of the many downtown Honolulu rentals, Travelocity can help put the island at your doorstep, if only for the duration of your stay.
From beautiful black sand beaches to lush tropical forests, the island urges you to get outside, soaking in the brilliant sun and being at one with nature’s bounty. Honolulu is home to Iolani Palace, the only royal residence in the United States. As a history aficionado, you’ve just been waiting for your opportunity to see it firsthand. After you’ve had your fill of beaches, volcanoes, and palatial estates, you might want to fill up on some local fare. The kalo plant, alone, is the key ingredient for Hawaiian dishes such as poi, lau lau, and taro chips. Imagine an island’s worth of uncommon delights.
What is the temperature in Honolulu, Hawaii?
The temperature in Honolulu fluctuates between a blustery 81 degrees to a balmy 89 degree Fahrenheit, with the warmer days occurring during the summer months. That means any time of year is perfect for a getaway at the Ambassador Hotel Waikiki or at one of the downtown Honolulu hotels. Your days will be spent drinking up the Hawaiian sun, hiking the trails up to Lulumahu Falls in the mountains outside of town, sampling new flavors like ahi poke or Spam musubi, and maybe even shaking your hips in a grass skirt at an island luau.
What is there to do in Honolulu for free?
Like the island’s iconic macadamia, downtown Honolulu is not at all a tough nut to crack. The Hawaiian state capitol is many things to many people, offering a welcoming lei to all who visit. Is it center of commerce? A lazy beach town? A hub of politics and culture? An egress to natural beauty found in the inland mountainside? The reality is, the Big Pineapple is all of this and more. And, when you book your Honolulu downtown hotel with Travelocity, you are putting yourself in a perfect spot to experience everything the city has to offer. It’s said that the best things in life are free, and that certainly holds true for Honolulu.
Consider a walking tour of the city. Not only will you take in the sights—sprinkled in with a bit of Hawaiian history, island culture, and Mother Nature, you’ll also work up an appetite. With the harbor as your starting point, visit the Aloha Tower and surrounding shops. From there, head next door to the Hawaii Maritime Center to learn about the island’s place in seafaring lore. From there, pass through Chinatown en route to the Iolani Palace. After you’ve seen how Hawaiian royalty lived, work your way to the Mission Houses Museum to witness the stark contrast between the homes of the first Protestant missionaries compared to the palace you just left. Along the way, be sure to take a respite at Kakaako Waterfront Park or the Mariana Trench National Wildlife Refuge. No matter where your Honolulu adventure takes you, let Travelocity help you get there.

Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort
"★★☆☆☆ The room itself was clean, comfortable, and the ocean view from the balcony was absolutely beautiful. Waking up and seeing the water every morning was easily the highlight of our stay. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended for us. This resort is enormous and constantly crowded. There always seemed to be people everywhere, making it difficult to find any sense of peace or relaxation. The pools were packed throughout the day, and the beach area directly in front of the hotel was equally crowded. Food and drinks on property were grossly overpriced, even by Waikiki standards. We were also surprised that there was no outdoor music or atmosphere around the pool areas, and no swim-up bar or convenient way to order drinks while lounging in the pool. If you're seeking peace, quiet, and a relaxing Hawaiian getaway, I would recommend looking elsewhere."
