Black mold on the shower/bath. We sneezed the whole time we were in that room. The loft if the pillows was huge. No one xould sleep on them! We traveled with kids. Outside our room was a patio, not sure if it wasn't some type of bar, anyway it was a bit noisy. I wouldn't call complimentary breakfat juice and a croissant!

Nice hotel, great location

Pros: close to everything but not in the French Quarter so it is quieter.
Cons: Had fairly new wood flooring and paint but there were big drops of dried paint on the new wood flooring, need attention to details.
Location: great location, easy to get to off Canal Street but is out of direct noise of Quarter and Canal. Great restaurants nearby, Mother's, PSH, Chophouse
Stayed total of 7 days for a local conference. It is of course an older building that has been updated but is very nice. Great restaurants within easy walking distance, street car line nearby, French Quarter across Canal Street. Pedro was great!

Dear Angie, Thanks for writing a review! We sincerely appreciate the feedback. It is good that you enjoyed our proximity to local attractions and restaurants. We're not in the French Quarter, so the noise won't keep you up at night! As you mentioned, our building is quite historic, but has been renovated and updated with modern comforts. Thank you for letting us know about the dried paint. We are constantly looking out for areas we can improve in and attention to detail is important to us. Thanks again for your detailed feedback. We hope you stay with us again on your next visit to New Orleans! Kind regards, Duriel Harris Guest Service Liaison St. James Hotel

Comfortable and Friendly!

Pros: Everything!
Location: The hotel is ideally located, a very short walk from the French Quarter, and only a block or two from the Canal St. streetcar line.
I had difficulty with my travel arrangements, and ended up getting to the St. James Hotel a day later than I'd planned, but I knew from my very first conversation with concierge Ariel that I would be in good hands. All three members of the front desk staff (Daniel, Doug, and Ariel) were lovely, but Ariel in particular really went out of her way to help me make the best of my shortened vacation. From giving me advice on where to go (and how to get there!) to finding me reservations at a nice restaurant on Christmas, she was an angel. The hotel was elderly but beautiful, and extremely well-maintained. My room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The complimentary breakfast of warm croissants and jam was a special surprise and a great way to get the day started. On the whole, I couldn't have been more pleased with my trip!

Stay Away

The room was nice. The breakfast was great the one morning out of four we actually received it. It's in a great location. The bellhop was AMAZING! The valet person that brought me my car on Tuesday June 6 was great. The front desk staff was HORRIBLE, especially the woman that checked me in on June 5, 2017 at approximately 11:15. I was charged for two days of valet and my car was there for 21 hours (I had to return home for an emergency). We called the front desk asking for toilet paper and a croissant card about 6pm on Thursday and we were told there wasn't a maid on duty so we couldn't get any. We had to go buy toilet paper. When I checked out they had tried to charge me for 4 days of valet. After being charged for 2 days and only using 21 hours I had moved my vehicle. This space doesn't give me enough room to explain exactly what happened but it was terrible.

Jennifer, I am terribly sorry to read about the experience that you had while staying at the St. James Hotel. This is incredibly unacceptable and quite honestly embarrassing. I left you a voicemail and would really appreciate the opportunity to discuss this with your further. Thank you, Jennifer Dragna, General Manager

Close, but not close enough

The hotel is fantastic, please do not let this detract from the hotel in anyway. The only problem was figuring out the hotel's location. When looking on Google Maps the location of the hotel is approximately two blocks from its actual location. The Maps location puts it in the French Quarter. It is just outside the Quarter by about three blocks. The hotel is beautiful. It has a lovely sitting area located off the entrance where cold water and hot coffee were provided. The room was spacious. The European breakfast was a good start to the day. Light enough that a brunch in the Quarter was a good option allowing for a late dinner as well. The entire staff we encountered was friendly, helpful, and warm.

Great NOLA stay

The St James was a great stay! Our room was small but perfect for 2 people. Large clean bathroom! Our room was in the corner and had three huge windows that overlooked a balcony (that sadly we didn't have access too) overlooking Magazine! It was a short walk to Canal and Bourbon. In the morning we woke up to complimentary crossoiants, tea and juice brought straight to our room! We even got a later check out to stay in bed and enjoy it longer. No complaints!

Lovely room. Great location

We really loved the St James hotel. It was the perfect location because it was walking district to the French Quartet but not so close that we had to deal with the noise and the loud partyers. Our room was so beautiful. The only improvement I would suggest would be better pillows. Ours were flat and hard.

BOOK AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

Pros: It was pretty, and the location was nice.
Cons: The staff.
I booked our stay through Travelocity, and selected the Queen Suite, which was advertised as having 2 queen beds and a sofa bed. When we arrived, we went to the room and discovered that there was no sofa bed. We went back to the desk, and as we stood waiting, the clerk upgraded the customer ahead of us to the 2-queen suite with a sofabed. Then, when we told her that the suite was actually supposed to be our room, she got the manager...who told us that since we had booked through a third-party site, they had no obligation to give us that room, and also that, since there was only ONE of those rooms in the hotel, we couldn't have it because it was already occupied. When we asked him when the guest had checked into that room, he said they had been checked in since the previous night. Long story short: we didn't get the room we paid for, the manager lied to us, and we were still charged the higher rate. The hotel was nice, but the staff wasn't at all concerned with our issues, because, again, we "booked through a third-party site". Book at your own risk; you might not get what you paid for. (Also, that "swimming pool" is basically a glorified wading pool...MUCH smaller than it looks.)
