I thought this property was great! The building is beautiful, the room was cool- a good size and nicely decorated. We had a balcony that overlooked a street where second line parades pass by- it was great! Love the plantation shutters.

The bathrooms are modern but not functional. There were not many drawers for clothes storage in the room either.

Pulling up it was hard to tell where to check in. There wasn't a vallet waiting and we could not leave the car unattended afraid were would block someone. Check in was fine and everyone was courteous once we figured out where to check in. The room is tiny you walk right into the bed and the bathroom is like a bathroom in a camper so small with terrible lighting. For the money there are better hotels in New Orleans. On a positive note, the food in the restaurant is great and the courtyard area is really cool.

The hotel is in a great locatation but...

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet
Cons: poor service
there just as nice in the same area. Don't bother with the hotel food in this foodie city that dishes up some awesome food. Do your homework before you leave. The hotel staff do try to be helpful but they fall way short of thier moto Whenever/Whatever! It should just be Whatever. They didin't even answer the Whenever direct line. Our room had a few problems and they did not fix the problem and we ended up wasting an entire afternoon on them. We have stayed at W hotels in many cities and this will be our last time at these properties.

Terrible for a W (and overall)

Very bad experience for a W (and a Starwood). As a platinum member I have stayed at over 100 Starwood properties and this has to rank up with the worst experiences I have had. (Generally, I am a huge fan). List of terrible service is long, but at the top, is no wake up call on my departure date. I ended up missing my flight and could not leave until the next day. I asked the front desk what happened and they said it was there mistake and they just didn't call. They did not offer to recitify in any way, nor would the manager talk to me. They would not compensate the extra night, nor did they provide an explanation, as they promised. Manager never spoke once. On top of that, they did not make up the room one day, even though I was gone the entire day. One day they knocked and woke me up on three separate occasions, even though the do-not disturb sign was on. Two times tried to get in the room. With a 7:30 reservation for breakfast, they could not seat our party until 8:00, then could not get us food in time to leave for our 8:30 meeting. The in-room safe was inoperable, lights burned out in the bathroom. Could go on - but suffice to say this is an extremely poorly run hotel. Save yourself the grief and book elsewhere. It is dissapointing this property is part of the Starwood brand.

NO WATER AND CONSTRUCTION!!!!

Cons: No free Internet, Noisy
I always love staying at The W....this time around, not so much. We had TWO MAJOR ISSUES with our stay. If we'd known these things in advance, we would NOT have stayed there. Issue #1 - NO WATER FROM 11AM-3PM FOR THE DAYS WE WERE THERE. Yes, a note was left under our door informing us, but that does not justify the incovenience. We each had to take showers with literally 2 steams of water coming from the shower. It was truly ridiculous. When we called the front desk about it, the response was, "well, didnt you get the note"....followed by, "what do you want me to do about it". Well, AMBER, perhaps you should take a refresher in customer service, that's what you could do! We finally were credited $50 for the inconvenience. I personally think it should have been $50 per night since we were without water both days! It took 2 weeks for my card to be credited!!! Issue #2 - RECONSTRUCTION. Who wants to stay at a hotel that is renovationg. No sleeping in late. No naps or relaxing in the middle of the day with all of the ruckus. The tv kept spazzing out. I really wish we'd stayed at the other W instead! The only bright spots were Christy at the Front Desk and Ethan, who drove us to a breakfast spot!

Disappointed

We've stayed at the W on Poydras many times and wanted to try the W French Quarter because of the courtyard. We were very disappointed. The rooms are very tiny, no storage for clothing or empty luggage, no tables for computer or set purse down. The door on the minibar fell off, toilet backed up, bathroom door handle fell off. Went to enjoy the courtyard to find it closed off for wedding we were not made aware of and couldn't use pool area. Wedding party was very loud until 2 AM when hotel finally asked for quiet. The bed was fabulous! Never slept better, even at home. We'll go back to the W on Poydras, pay less and get way more.
