Our family of 10 (5 adults, 5 kids) spent 9 nights at Paradisus Playa del Carmen. While we had a good vacation, there were a few issues. The sargassum (seaweed) problem was bad, and the smell lingered throughout the resort, which impacted the beach experience.
We had the Family Concierge package, and Carlos was excellent—helping with restaurant reservations and resolving complaints. The pullout couch mattress in our room was broken, but after notifying them, they replaced it with a new one.
We were also disappointed with the spa. Our package included hydrotherapy, but no one told us we needed a reservation. When we were turned away, we felt misled, but after raising the issue, we were able to schedule our sessions. Upon our return the spa was not busy at all.
The kids loved the Kidsom daycare, and the family photography session was wonderful. As for the food, it was hit or miss. Capella, Flora, Blue Agave, and Hibachi were great, but Sal the Steakhouse and Cielo were not impressive. Poolside ordering was a nice perk.
The resort is showing signs of wear and tear and doesn’t fully live up to its 5-star rating. Overall, it was a great family vacation with some hiccups, but the kids had an amazing time, and we had a relaxing trip.
We have stayed at other resorts such as Sandals, LeBlanc, Grand Moon Palace, Secrets, Live Aqua, & Royalton. So we have high expectations. We always like trying new resort until we find right one for our entire family. Right now that is Moon Palace
