Great location but needs updated

The location is great and so are the staff. The suite was a good size but needed to be updated. If you want a great location for less money this is the place but you get what you pay for. The beds and furniture need to be replaced as they are worn out. The A.C. unit needs to be replaced as well.

Nice views

Pros: Trip 1: full and stocked kitchen, clean, air conditioned, views Trip 2: all of the above, as well as lovely curtains and usable couch
Cons: some of the couches and curtains could use some tender love and care; or mere replacement
Location: easy access to beach, nice spots to eat, diverse shops, rather expensive 45 min shuttle to and from airport
We stayed twice, once before our cruise and once after. We were on the something-th floor the first time, somewhere in the middle. It had marvelous views of the ocean and Diamond Head. However, the curtains were a bit shoddy, but only when the lights were off; they much resembled the night sky from the outside light pouring in through the numerous little holes. The couch also was not the picture of comfort. The cushion did not bounce back after one stood after sitting for some time. It merely remained indented as to remind the previous occupant of their exact size and shape. Eveything else, however, was in top shape. Very good. The second time around was much better, however. It may have had somethign to do with that we were then placed on the 38th floor, otherwise known as the top floor. As one could imagine, the views were even better here, as were the curtains. Very nice, indeed. And the couch was much puffier and enjoyable this time around. Much like the skin on the back of a well moisturized ahnd, it bounced right back into its correct shape when expected to. Lovely.

Room was not as advertised.

Pictures did not represent our room. Outdated, stinky and didn't feel clean.

Good location, nice staff, great value

We stayed here for 1 week and we are happy. We love the kitchen so we can cook at home. It close to the beach, restaurants. The housekeeping is very nice, clean our room each day, give us more towels because we love to go to the beach.

good value for the big family

There was 5 of us and this hotel was one of the few that could accomodate us. I think it was OK for the money. It was dated, some of the hotel staff were quite unpleasant. Like in the case when alarm went off in entire tower, when I called to ask what happened and if we need to evacuate the building, I was rudely asked to wait for the call back. Internet and parking is separate$15  each. The coffee shop was awesome, fresh coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice and great cheeche.  Basketball court was a really nice bonus for my son. Overall good experience, mostly friendly personall and good location, , just about 7 -10 min walk to  the beach, restaurants, abc stores, etc.

Huge disappointment

The ratings and reviews on this hotel were quite positive so we went ahead and made a reservation. Now posting my review so others don't make the same mistake. This hotel was totally outdated. Our room had peeling wallpaper, uncomfortable beds, old outlets that wouldn't hold plugs in them, and a weird smell. Housekeeping always opened up the windows like they were aware there was something to make up for. The location was on a very busy corner and even high up we could still hear traffic and sirens all night. The staff members were unfriendly. Housekeeping made it very clear of all the things they WOULD NOT do for you. And if you wanted pool towels every member of your party had to be present to be given one. The ocean was warmer than the hotel pool and a staff member walked around keeping everyone from doing much other than sit in the pool (even got mad at a mom for tossing a ball to her toddler in the pool). The parking garage was difficult to navigate and the hotel locked all entrances from the garage at night but forgot to mention that detail or give us a key so we had to lug our bags all the way back down to the main floor and go through the lobby. And the front desk called the night before we checked out wanting a confirmation of what time we planned to leave the next day. When we gave a general range the man said he needed to know exactly when we would be leaving. Nothing like making the guests feel like you just want to take their money and get them out of there! Because our time in Honolulu was broken up by an inter-island trip, we spent a few days earlier in another hotel and wish we had just gone back to that one. There are much nicer hotels (and friendlier hotels) than this one within the same price range.

Lots of variables here

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
I have stayed at the Banyan 3 times. Each time the experience was different; some units have fantastic views, with unit quality varying from yuck, to OK to perfectly fine. However, I stayed there Jan 2012 for 14 days and my first room, T2, 35 floor, was a disgrace. The room was in the "condo" pool and obviously owned by a major-league cheapskate. I believe it had every surface, appliance and all the furniture in the place original to 1979; I am not kidding! This unit should never have been accepted into the rental pool. I complained and Cliff at the front desk was terrific, but he could not get us into a decent room for 3 days; this is a busy property. Carpet is cheap--there is no excuse for a foot square hole worn into the sliding door area--but wait: it was evident that this faded battleship grey carpet had been shampooed...Really? It was actually rather funny, like washing up your worn-out tennis shoes! Not so funny is I had paid for a deluxe ocean view, than moved into a standard room, with no refund; at least that unit had decent carpet and furniture, but neither was close to new. The Banyan remains a favorite to me. However, insist you get a room that has had money spent on it..because you will be spending yours; cheapskate unit owners beware! Banyan renters won't put up with your penny pinching, and the Aston mgt shouldnt either!

Okay, but would not stay here again

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet
Cons: no restaurant small pool
The first room we were put in was terrible! Holes in the drapery, two twin beds pushed together to make a 'king bed' and had old stained carpet. I complained and then we were placed in a newer room that had been remodeled and was actually quite nice. However, you should know that this is a condo resort with each unit individually owned, and it is quite variable whether a unit has been remodeled and to what extent. And there was internet, but not wireless!
