Swissôtel Amsterdam

Damrak 96, Amsterdam - Map
"Incredibly convenient, busy sidewalks."
This hotel was perfect for us as first-time visitors to Amsterdam. The desk staff displayed courtesy; the maids were amazing. Very clean and comfortable room. Our room was quiet due to its location in the rear of the hotel. Everything was modern and sleek. Also, the location was in the heart of everything in the centre of Amsterdam. It was very easy to navigate to other parts of the city.

Steigenberger Airport Hotel Amsterdam

Stationsplein ZW 951, Schiphol - Map
"First experience with Steigenberger Hotel"
After leaving Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam we headed to the Hotel Shuttle area. Without waiting to long the easily identifiable Shuttle from Steigenberger Hotel arrived at the Pick-Up area. The top of the line Shuttle Bus drove us to the hotel and after an easy registration process we went up to our rooms. Since this was the first time ever that we stayed at a Steigenberger hotel we did not know what to expect, but found ourselves pleasantly surprised. The beds AND the pillows are super comfortable. The bath towels thick and generously sized. Everything else of the room was perfect. The hotel has a fast Wi-Fi (very unusual to our experience while traveling through Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Spain) and a marvelous Room Service menu.

"A bit old, we were upgraded once we got there. For some reason there is netting covering the building."
Excellent location. Across from train station, all the trolleys begin their routes in same area so you can get anywhere in the city easily. Very easy walking to many of the major sites from the hotel. Lots of inexpensive, good places to eat. We didn't eat in the hotel, too pricey. Concierge services excellent. We got our museum tickets at the hotel - no service fees - and walked into all the museums without waiting in line. A great service.

"Great location in the heart of Amsterdam"
If asked at check-in about upgrading to Executive level, I would suggest it. Allows you to do full breakfast buffet in the restaurant and go to the Exec. Lounge for snacks & happy hour everyday. However, keep your phone close in the hotel restaurant. I had my phone stolen right next to me at our table while in the restaurant! Evidently, this is fairly common. Hotel security was concerned, but had to file report with local police. Only problem we had on check-in was one of our rooms was not ready until after 5PM! Rooms are on the smallish size, but not unusual for Euro standards. We found them to be clean and very modern with everything working. Our floor was very quiet and never heard our neighbors, even though every room was occupied in the hotel. Hotel is right next to the Centraal Station for trams into the city (7euro/day pass & multi-day passes available, which I would suggest getting if you'll be there for any length of time ) and trains for areas outside the city. Hotel is centrally located for canal tours & hop on-hop off buses & boats, which are a must do. Van Gogh & Rijks museum are wonderful. A festival was starting in full swing on museum grounds the last day we were there. Lots to do and see while your there. We found the food at the restaurants around Royal Square & Red Light district very good!
