4 Star Amsterdam Hotel Guide
Amsterdam, capital of The Netherlands, is known as the "Paris of the North" for its moonlit canals, world-class museums, and flower-filled parks that rival its French counterpart. Base yourself in one of the many 4-star hotels in Amsterdam, and discover this historic gem.
History & Transportation
A quick look into Amsterdam's history can be found in Dam Square — the original city center after the Amstel River was dammed in the 13th century. Dam Square continued to be built during the Golden Age, including the construction of a City Hall, now called the Royal Palace, in 1655. This was also when many of the city's canals were built, creating the iconic look of the city today. Those canals also make walking between destinations its own experience in this compact city. To really see Amsterdam like a local, though, you must do it by bike.
There are also both metro and train routes leaving from Centraal Station, which means you can book one of the many 4-star hotels near Amsterdam and escape the hustle and bustle of the city at night.
Things to Do
A short walk from Dam Square is the Anne Frank House, made famous by the schoolgirl who hid there during the Nazi occupation. The house is now a museum that allows visitors to see the house described by Anne Frank in her diary. Continue your history lesson at the Rijksmuseum, a ten-minute bike ride away, which focuses on art and history dating back to the Middle Ages. To end a full day of museum going, head back outside and stroll through the nearby 120-acre Vondelpark.
There are a couple cafes within the park to grab an espresso and slice of famous Dutch apple pie. Maybe it's the serene surroundings, or maybe it's because you know you didn't break the bank to stay at one of the 4-star hotels in Amsterdam, but nothing is more relaxing that enjoying an espresso in a beautiful park. That, and also knowing Travelocity will never charge fees to change or cancel plans for your upcoming stay at hotels in Amsterdam.
