Second time at this resort. It has very beautiful surroundings, great staff and is very walkable. Beach is nice as well even that it was the seaweed season during our last stay. Rooms are nice, however they might require upgrade in the near future. Service was excellent and cleanliness was five star.

Half of the resort is currently under construction which was not disclosed to us when we booked this trip or before our arrival. The construction especially around the pool area come with a certain noise level as well which is not very relaxing. The beach couldn’t be used due to seaweed which often smelled horrible all the way to the pool. The resort also has a problem with what they call “Mexican raccoons” they are everywhere looking for food and drinking from cups guests leave at their chairs. The biggest problem with this is that they steel people’s bags and stuff and actually even open zippers (they are very smart) it happened to us a few times that a raccoon tried to get to our bags while we were in the pool they jump on the tanning chairs. Service at the pool bar was very bad 2 guys to severe so many people in the pool area wait was so long to get a drink. Around the pool wall was very dirty looking paint was peel off the wall. Our pictures is looking like we stayed at a really run down resort. Our party was 19 people we didn't get to book any of the restaurants even if we was willing to break our party in 3 parts...so we didn't get to dinn in any of the restaurants.

It was unfortunate the property was under construction. We were not under the impression that a big part of the hotel was closed. There was not a lot of restaurants to choose from like how it was advertised.

Wasn’t told until after we checked in that 1/2 of the resort was closed for renovation. This included 1/2 of the pools, and the resort combining the restaurants which made it very difficult to get reservations (you are better off eating off property anyways). Upon check in our room had a very strong odor of furniture varnish, and there was a very greasy residue all over the floor. After speaking to the front desk we were told that no other rooms were available, but they could send housekeeping to clean the room again. This solution helped, but did not completely resolve the smell. 2 days later we received a call from a “manager” stating he had been trying to contact us about the room issues, although we had not gotten any phone calls. He stated he could have changed our room on the first day, but at this point there was nothing he could do (which is an obvious contradiction to what we were told by the front desk at the time of the complaint). The manager offered to make us a reservation at the steak house as an appeasement, but when we arrived to the steakhouse at the time of the reservation the host had no record of the reservation. We were seated anyways after explaining the situation to multiple staff, but it was a hassle. The resort is out dated, and the rooms are very musty smelling due to mold. The sea weed issue made it to where we were unable to utilize the resort beach. I would not recommend this property, as there are much nicer resorts available.

The beach was awful seaweed all over no cleaned at all, the smell pushed you away. The biggest issue was that half of the resort under construction limiting the options to our family. At check in they sent us with the time share sharks without asking or being honest as to what to expect. Just pushed us in to a si call “explanation walk of the premises” when we just got there after a long trip with our kids.

The exterior of the hotel along with the pool is deteriorating. The dining experience was not great. The beach was not accessible due to the seaweed collection, the smell was horrible. The hotel should be upfront with the conditions of the beach if it is the selling point of the resort.

I had a 4 day stay at Grand Riviera Princess in Playa Del Carmen, Cancun Mexico. I reivewed the property and gave it an average score. A portion of the property is under renovations (wanted to advise because teh resprt doesn't tell you this). Our room was in the family club and the rooms definitely need to TLC (the rooms smell musky and we found cockroaches every night. Main buffett also had cockroaches. The entertainment was not great. It felt like it was for an older crowd. I reccommend anyone staying here to pay a little extra for the Platinum section, as the rooms are in a little better condition. There were great things about the resort too. On our walks to the Platinum section of the resort, we saw deer, capybara, Mexican raccoons and even monkeys. The a la carte restaurants were not bad but the food isn't great. The BEST part of this resort is the staff! Everyone was nice and always made sure we were having a good time. I was mentally prepared for the sargassum and not being able to enjoy the beach, so we did a tour to Isla Mujeres and snorkeled (IT WAS AMAZING)! The stay wasn't terrible but I do wish the rooms were a littled updated and no cockroaches and that there is entertainment for teenages at the pool and other plaes n the property. I will select a different resort next time.
