The most unique part of this place is Freda! She’s sweet, kind & an formative local. She gave us all kinds of insight on where to go, eat or go thrift shopping. We had delicious food & the use of beach towels or whatever we needed for the beach! We give her 5 Stars!!! Leslie Wright

Hi Leslie and Michael, Thank you so much for choosing Always Inn San Clemente. In the email I sent Michael a couple of days ago I have a looooonnng writeup about all my favorite things to see and do in San Clemente and Ive got a section on the Rodeo Drive of Thrift Stores in San Clemente. Keep in mind the first Sunday of each month Art Faire and Friends of the SC Library book sale. The SC Historic Home Tour I'm chairing is Oct. 12, 2019. The SC garden tour is May 16, 2020.

30th Anniversary Getaway Was Just What We Needed

Pros: Beautiful gardens; artwork from local artisans as well as from Freda's world travels; great food; comfortable bed; balance of friendliness and privacy
Cons: Nothing.
Location: Beach is 10 minute easy walk. Shopping and restaurants 1 minute walk. Good food options in San Clemente, Dana Point, and San Juan Capistrano.
As busy professionals, my wife and I were only able to get away for a few days to celebrate our 30th anniversary, so we chose to stay in San Clemente at the Always Inn. We were hoping for a quiet, no hassle stay near the beach with plenty of alone time. We found all of that and so much more! The Inn is small but perfectly situated in a quiet residential area between the beach and the main shopping / restaurant area. Freda, the innkeeper, was just incredible and made our stay feel like we were staying with a longtime family friend. She is super friendly and welcoming yet was very respectful of our desire for privacy. Her cooking is unbelievable - breakfast was so delicious and plentiful that we only needed small snacks for lunch. She is very active in the local community so is very knowledgeable of the local area and is extremely helpful in recommending food and entertainment options. We came away from our two day stay feeling reconnected, refreshed, and rested. Also, indicative of Freda's generosity, we came home with clippings from her beautiful succulent garden to start one of our own at home. Thanks again, Freda! We won't forget you or the Always Inn, our new favorite B&B!

Nice lady but not a good place to stay

I booked a stay here last minute. I thought it sounded quiet and quaint. It was not. I arrived after a long day to check in only to find no one home, met only by a barking dog. Right here I would have gone elsewhere if I hadn't already paid through Travelocity. So I walked across the street to a restaurant for dinner- it's in the center of town with a couple restaurants and bars with live music at the corner. When I returned, she was home but not expecting me. My room had an uncomfortable bed and pillows and between the dog barking when the couple down the hall arrived at 12:30 midnight, and the phone ringing outside my door and then a laptop alarm that started about 1:30 am again outside my door, I did not get much sleep. It took the guy down the hall and I to figure out what the alarm was in the main living area and silence it. They could not sleep as well. In the middle of the night I discovered I was out of toilet paper. No privacy whatsoever for calls. And although there was a refrigerator in my room, it was still full of leftover take out from the guy who stayed there before me. She told me he would come back to get them the next day. Odd experience. Definitely like staying at your talkative aunt's house. If you are in need of company and a communal feeling with all the noises of home, then maybe.

This is a must stay when in San Clemente.

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet, pet friendly, close to beach, in a happening part of town
When we arrived and met the owner Freda she made us feel like we were family. She gave us a big hug and welcomed us to her home. Her breakfast potatoes have won awards and when you taste them you will know why. She makes her own blend of herbs call "Herb Shebang" which she also sells and I would recommend you buy if you want to add that special zing to your potatoes. The location is in the best part of town with wonderful little shops and great restaurants. The night life in the area around the inn is the hot spot. The beach and pier are walking distance and the Inn is dog friendly. Indy is the resident Inn dog and she is a sweetheart. I have stayed there several times now and I still find things in her garden that I did not notice before. She has several comfortable outdoor areas where you can just sit and chill while drinking a glass of wine or a nice cold beer. We highly recommend that you stay at this Bed and Breakfast when visiting San Clemente. Every Sunday there is a farmers market just a few steps away from the Inn and the first Sunday of every month is a very nice art fair on the street with unusual and beautiful items to choose from. We plan to go several times a year!

This Bed and Breakfast is in the perfect location

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet, Free breakfast, dog friendly, close to beach, close to cute little shops
The minute we arrived at Always Inn we were greeted by Freda, the owner, and she was so friendly we felt like we were visiting our family. The breakfast potatoes are so amazing with her own special blend of seasoning called "Herb Shebang" which she sells and I would recommend purchasing if you want to make your food have that special zing, and she really puts out a beautiful breakfast. The location is ideal for shopping, dining out and walking to the beach and pier. I believe it is the perfect location for all the wonderful things that little town has to offer. The garden has so many things to look at and the patio is a delightful place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine. Indy is the dog that lives there and she is a sweetheart who will greet you with a wag of the tail. I highly recommend you stay at the Always Inn and you will go back many more times as we ourselves have done.
