unannounced renovations

Didn't find out they had the whole first floor torn up until check-in. Was told there is a restaurant.... there wasn't. Manager reception totally ghetto in a dark room with alcoholics shuffling in a line for their free booze. I assume the alcoholism because nobody else would stand in that line. Not a very good experience. I'm sure it will be worth the price once renovations are done but I feel ripped off.

This hotel was a total mess.

The hotel was going through a major remodel but failed to mentioned this on the booking website when I booked a few days before my stay. Only one of three elevators in this 12 story hotel was working, and the one elevator took 5 to 10 minutes to arrive on a floor. The first floor garden atrium was a mess and closed off for construction. During the day construction noise and paint fumes filled the hotel. The Manager's reception was in a hall and only included some chips, pita bread and carrots. Plastic hot dog baskets with wax paper were the only plates providid. Customers would be better served visiting a local Costco to try their samples than what was provides at the reception. The breakfast was way below normal Embassy suites standards. I saw exposed electrical wires sticking out of an electrical junction box just off the hall leading from the temporary lobby to the breakfast area. The building was simply a mess, way below what customers would expect and may be unsafe. Don't book a room there until they are done with their remodel!

Nice hotel. Old. Construction.

We knew ahead of time of construction, however, the water was shut off during our stay which was not told previous. Good location. Friendly staff. Needs repairs. Will be perfect when construction finishes.

Customer Be Warned!!!!

This hotel property is under a massive remodel! Several floors and the lobby breakfast area has temp walls and plastic everywhere. Although this is part of owning a hotel and they need to upgrade to offer the best to their customers. My issue is with Travelocity for not being transparent and giving that information to their customers. I paid full price for this stay and was not informed of the condition of the property. When I contacted Travelocity the 1st night of our stay all I got were apologies and I will forward this to my team that specializes in this they will contact you by email within 48 hours. It's Monday morning and I still have not heard anything. I will not use Travelocity again! They do not have my family's best interest in mind just their bottom line. My advise is read customer reviews before booking from now on.

Birthday celebration in Monterey

Pros: Very comfortable bed. We stayed on the 12th floor which was extremely quiet. We had a beautiful view of Monterey Bay.
Cons: One of the elevators was broken, but the repairmen were working on it.
Location: Centerely located to downtown Monterey and lots of shopping areas. Easy freeway access. Not far from many local wineries.
We were greeted with a smile and quickly checked into the hotel by Kenya at the front desk. I mentioned it was my husband's birthday and we were here to relax and celebrate. Kenya asked me if my husband preferred red or white wine. About 15 minutes after checking into our room we were surprised with a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and a box of chocolates from Lula's in Carmel and a Happy Birthday Card. We thank Kenya so much for making our stay such a happy experience.

Excellent accommodations hotel with super view.

This 4.5 star rated Hotel is part of the "Embassy Suites" Chain and is located just outside downtown Monterey (driving distance not walking). This is still a very convenient location to Warf, beaches, Carmel and all tourist activities. Excellent, comfortable, clean rooms incl. handicap access. Great breakfast buffet with super choices incl. fresh, cooked-to-order omelettes- included in room price, which is not too high for area. The staff were very, very nice and helpful. Has sauna, heated indoor pool, and hot tub(open til 11-12 pm for adults and 10 pm for under 18 yr. olds) also a gym. Very quiet rooms with great view of beach and ocean/bay from upper floors that face West. Easy freeway access. Great for business guests, couples and families. There is a $10 parking fee for non handicapped guests. Only one drawback was the elevator system doesn't always stop at your floor quickly, especially when breakfast is scheduled. But, still worth the slight wait -just don't wait till the last minute. Has a dinning room, but there are excellent 3-5 star restaurants, obviously in the area. We highly recommend this hotel. It's one of the best in the Chain. Reservations at least a week in advance are necessary because of area's popularity and area special events (ie. - golf, car racing and sailing regattas on Bay). We will definitely stay here when we come to the Monterey Bay Area. Highly recommend. Really no negatives!

Love this hotel!

Pros: See above
Cons: My only complaint was that the gift shop was rarely open when it was supposed to be. I don't know why that was.
Location: I drove everywhere, so I can't be of help there, but there is a restaurant right across the street, Mexican food.
Elegant room, large and clean. Their breakfast was the BUSINESS! Helpful, accommodating staff. Very comfortable atmosphere, and quiet. Central location. Lots of amenities.
