Only 20 minutes of Internet unless I pay. The staff are all foreigners who either don't speak English at all or else speak with unintelligible foreign accents. Nobody knows anything. Me; "Where is room 145" Them: "I don't know."

Paid for a room with a late check-in and was told that the room was not available. They did not give me the room at all. Basically they just took my money!! Then they put me in a smaller room with no air conditioning when I paid for a bigger room. They asked me what the problem was when I complained. Staff told me the room was adequate and I should be happy. I will not stay here again! I would definitely NOT recommend this hotel at all!!

In Canary Wharf, quaint old English hotel

Very traditional and quaint hotel. Decorated reminiscent of old English culture and decorum. Staff very friendly and accommodating. DLR station 5 minute walk. Jubilee line station less than 10 minutes walk across the bridge. Financial district with underground mall at Canary Wharf. Simply convenient! Definitely affordable!

Nice Hotel

Pros: Location and value.
Cons: A little cleaner, more up to date and extend hours of lobby bar area.
Location: Great location at the Canary Wharf. It's the financial district and it had the tube/subway there for getting around. Lots of shops and shopping.
Very good experience and great for the money. The first night, the room's air conditioning didn't cool. I tried to lower it and it didn't. I was actually sweating at times during the night. The next morning I said something to the front desk, they sent a maintenance guy who told me he couldn't fix it and it would take the A/C person and he was off that day, since it was Saturday. So, I was stuck. I asked the front desk for assistance and they moved me to a slightly nicer room where the A/C worked. That remedied the problem. Overall, a very good experience and worth the money. Be careful with them nickel and diming you to death.

This hotel should remove the word "MODERN"

Pros: absolutely nothing.
Cons: Tear it down and start over. Get rid of your night staff, completely useless and rude.
I have travelled quite a bit in my career and never have I been so disgusted with a hotel that I felt the need to write a review only if to save even one unaware person from booking this hotel. The night reception staff was rude beyond belief, barely looking at me as I checked in and after he handed me my room key just did an about face and walked away. I thought he was coming back since he did not ask me for my credit card for incidentals etc., but no, he never came back. Not even so much as an "enjoy your stay" was uttered from this man. The room itself looked as if it had not been upgraded since the 1900's. Carpet worn (and hideous), wallpaper peeling, a shower equivalent to what you expect to see in a rental unit in a bad part of town. The bed was literally just two twins on a wheeled platform (push up against a headboard) with sprung springs (no boxspring) and you had the seam of the two beds running down your back all night if you didn't choose a side and stick to it. I was supposed to stay 6 nights, I only made it through one. The price may seem low but after they nickel and dime you for wifi, the use of the gym, a towel to use if you pay for the gym etc.... save yourself the aggravation and just book a different place!

A little far from the city center, but a great place to stay!

Pros: nice continental breakfast at a cost
I stayed in this hotel in 2009. I'm American and it was my first visit to the UK. I understand that many Americans get upset about small beds, small rooms, and hotels with just a shower and no tub. I understood all of this before going into a NEW CULTURE. I think a lot of people ignore that part. When my group arrived, we took our bags to our room (no surprise there. It's the UK, not the U.S.). Our rooms were clean, the beds were a little more narrow than a traditional twin sized bed in the US, but it did the job. Honestly, if you're there to see the city, you won't spend much time in the room anyway. The bathroom was pretty big for a London hotel and it had a tub! Everything was nice and clean. We needed an iron so we called downstairs for one. It was brought to us with no problem. Good customer service and yummy breakfast every morning! It's about a half mile walk to the closest tube station and not very convenient to get to by bus just in case your out on the town late at night and the tube station closes for the night. That's probably the only drawback. But like someone else said, if you're looking to stay in the Docklands/Canary Wharf area, this hotel is perfect.

Average hotel

Great location if spending time in the Docklands area and near a tube station. The bed was very uncomfortable compared to standard US hotel beds. The wireless internet was unusable which is the main reason why I would not stay there again.
