pleasantly surprised

Pros: Friendly, inviting, elegant. Service driven and superior guest relations.
Location: 2 blocks from Buckingham Palace, tube and train stations. Less than half a mile to major tour operators for travel
I am an executive in the hospitality industry in the U.S. and my standards are very high. I chose this hotel simply because it was an option through Travelocity. The location and price point were my initial reasons for selecting the St. James' but the staff was incredibly friendly and hospitable. The property and its collection of restaurants, services and vicinity to transportation are unbeatable. No request was too much and we were always accommodated during a sold out holiday week bursting with guests and activities. We were made to feel safe and comfortable and every contact with staff was enjoyable. All the restaurants presented wonderful options and again, great service. We'll stay here every time we're in town an we will now look into other Taj Hotel properties when traveling internationally.

Lovely Hotel

My husband and I stayed here for our 20th anniversary and we couldn't be more pleased. The room was comfortable and the staff was very attentive and helpful. The breakfast was substantial and included numerous items for a variety of tastes and preferences. I highly recommend this hotel.

Very nice, indeed!

Pros: It's convenient location and pleasant staff made our stay most enjoyable.
Cons: A small map, either at front desk or in room, would have been helpful in orienting oneself to the immediate area and near-by bus & tube stops.
Congenial, professional, helpful staff. Clean, comfortable room. Lovely decor. Convenient location. Pleasant lobby piano bar. Fine restaurant. Also, there are a couple of nice pubs nearby. Stayed a week; reluctant to go home!

Great choice

This was a great choice for our 24 hours in London. Buckingham Palace a five min walk, Trafalgar Square ten min, Big Ben & London Eye 15-20 min. The Indian restaurant of this hotel has a Michelin star and is not to be missed.

Great location in London.

Pros: The buffet breakfast was excellent.
Cons: Soundproofing. Better windows.
Location: Great location for Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. Walk about 3 minutes to the tube or bus stop.
A good hotel in Central London, one block from Buckingham Palace. The room itself was comfortable with plenty of space to spread out, but the bathroom was quite small and tight. It is an older hotel that has been refurbished and we had to change rooms when we heard the tube trains under us at 5:00AM on Monday morning.

disappointing, a little shabby

Pros: Nothing
Cons: complete renovation of the rooms, soundproofing, nicer front desk
Location: It's close to the Underground and Buckingham Palace.
Our room was over the Underground and noisy. The toilet didn't work properly, the lights flickered, the bed was an uncomfortable queen, not a king as promised, and there was a sign in the bathroom stating "please be sure to close the bathroom door completely whilst showering, as the steam will set off the fire alarm in your room". The rooms are through a labyrinth of hallways of old carpeting and chipped paint, and inconveniently located. The front desk was not particularly helpful either. Its opulent on the outside and in the common areas, but our room was shabby, sad and small. Our stay was a terrible disappointment.

Buckingham Gate!

Cons: Better blackout curtains, ones that stay closed on the sides.
Location: Tour all of London's landmarks!
We stayed for a week and this was the perfect location for first timers in London! The underground (St James) is just around 2 corners and very easy to get anywhere in all zones. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful any time of the day or night. The room we selected was a king with a court view, the room was great and the bathroom wonderful. Location is perfect for touring all of London! Will stay here again when we go back!
