"Great condo "
We really had a good experience at the Paseo del Sol. The place is a condo residence, so the rooms are very spacious - kitchen, living room, deck with a grill, a master bedroom with tons of closet space. Two bathrooms. A big pool in the central court area of the condo. 24-hr security. It's not right on the beach, but the beach is right across the street. Stay includes access to the Reef Beach Club, and is within a 1km walk to 5th Ave in Playa del Carmen. We couldn't have been more pleased with the stay, and would certainly recommend it to families with teens/tweens who want their own space/rooms, but who probably won't eat/drink enough to justify the expense of an all-in-one resort.

"Wonderful, BUT...."
Went for our honeymoon, booked through travelocity. Requested a King bed, when we arrived they only had us in a 2 full bedroom & said that's only a request because we they didn't know we were honeymooners. The lady at the front was very kind but we had to upgrade for another $70 per night. Was worth the room upgrade because they treated us like royalty the rest of the trip!!

"Beautiful beach and property, but understaffed"
This is not the typical huge hotel like many all around Riviera Maya. It is a smaller, cozy and relaxed hotel with all the right comforts that will guarantee a great vacation. Best feature is the beach, perfect white sand, no rocks/coral, no other big nosiy hotels nearby, good beach/pool furniture to relax and enjoy. There are several restaurants (Mexican and Spanish were extremely good), and they change buffet lunch options regularly. Could improve by adding a couple of local Mexican dishes in the breakfast buffet too. Italian restaurant was the worst... no fresh ingredients. Also all of the restaurants close early (1030pm) so if you go out on a daytrip you have to rush back in order to have some food. Drinks were not very good, bars had very cheap alcohol (you are offered a premium selection only paying an upgrade). There were many friendly forest animals roaming around the premises that help to get rid of insects and make your stay very happy. No mosquitoes!!! The hotel is very clean and premises are well maintained. Room was comfortable and with privacy. They must have excellent marketing/travel deals with Italian agencies because 80% of the guests were Italian (I am Mexican so felt like at home with the italian atmosphere). Day entertainment activities were fun, but night activities were too few and only lasted for 1-2 hours. Most of my stay was great but I think the hotel is understaffed. Employees work too hard and in peak hours service suffers. More people would help

"Love Love Love Sandos"
This was our third stay at the Sandos Playacar. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and the entire property and room was very clean. Large resort but enough golf carts to get us around to the buffet and various restaurants. The food was very good. I recommend the adult only section if not travelling with children.

"Great place to stay in Playa del Carmen"
This was our second trip to this resort. Very helpful and friendly staff - hospitality focused at all times. Food choices were very good as was the service. The resort is spotless from the room to the public areas. Grounds are well maintained throughout the resort. Playa del Carmen is just a short 10 minute ride by van if you want to take a quick trip into town.

"Family Mexico Vacation"
We chose this hotel for the size. Not too big, not too small for the first time traveling with our 6 year old out of the country. The rooms and hotel in general are very clean. Wear and tear on the rooms is normal but did not bother us. The food was a 7 out of 10 at the various restaurants, a 6 out of 10 on the general buffet but if you stick to fruits, veggies, and other basics, it is more than adequate (understanding how difficult it is to produce a buffet for many people over long stretches of time). There were many activities for kids and adults alike. The foam pool party was a riot! The beach club has snorkels and masks and kayaks that you can take out to use. The beach is a small bay which was just perfect for us. We had brought a relatively inexpensive mask and snorkel for our daughter and about 30 yards from the edge of the water, only getting about waist-deep for an adult, it gets rocky but that is where the fish are for snorkel viewing which our daughter could not get enough of. The entrance of the water can be a little rocky at times so water shoes for kids are good. The property was small enough that if you forgot something in your room, it took you no time at all to run to get it. However, the rooms were quiet, seemed well insulated for sound. We had a room on the back side of the hotel where the dolphin lagoon is and that was fun and relaxing and quiet to sit there and watch the dolphins. Overall the staff was very nice and accommodating.

"nice resort close to beach"
Went for my son's wedding. Everything turned out beautiful, but my daughter in law was not happy with her wedding planner, Lillian. She was not even around on the day of the wedding. So, if you are planning a wedding, request a different wedding planner. Very large resort, 5 hotels. You can take a tractor to the other hotels, but it is faster to walk if you are able. There is something for everyone, very small casino, daily activities, non-motorized water sports, including paddle boards, nice kiddie water park, tons of pools. Many children were there. The drinks were not weak, but if you want stronger drinks, just ask. I did not find the bed too hard to sleep as others have said. At the check in desk, I was told that the mattresses were new. I did find the sheets to be a different texture, but still I was able to sleep. Beach: Yes, as others have said, there are some rocks, but the water is so clean and blue they can be seen and just walk around them. There was only one day when there was seaweed in the water. Other than that day, water was blue and clear. Restaurants: You can make 3 reservations per day. Hung out at the Carey Bar - open 24 hrs. I would recommend this resort.

"Gorgeous resort with lots of options"
What a gorgeous location for a vacation! We recommend it. Going premium is worth the extra money. Our rooms were comfy and the beds were awesome. We loved the view and tub. It is a lot of walking so be prepared. The children's club was a hit with our 8 yo. The shopping there on the resort was even decent. We spent the day at the spa which was ok but not great. The food was amazing and fresh fruit outstanding. Be sure you book any specialty dinners as soon as you can as they are full before you even get there which was a bit of a disappointment. The servers were always responsive and helpful. The food was amazing even in the buffet. The buffets near the pool and beach were the most disappointing but still ok. We aren't drinkers but we did try several virgin drinks - daquris, bahama mama and such. It would have been nice to have had a menu of options instead of having to guess. Our one big complaint was the lack of communication about the resort itself and everything it had to offer. It was a bit of a hunt and locate to figure anything out. With a resort so large and across the world, I would expect to have more info. It would have been nice to be given a packet of info upon check in with everything. Heck we would have went scuba diving or ATVing had we known about it and the costs. Really this was the most annoying part. It would have been nice to have a method to flag down the train that went between places or let them know if you wanted a stop.
