"Travel like a star; Feel right at home."
Last month, my husband and I had the pleasure of celebrating our tenth anniversary with five nights at The Tides. We have traveled all over the world and have never seen or experienced a place like this. The Tides has a magical atmosphere that feels dreamy, serene, and extremely upscale. We did not have to choose between the beach and the jungle; at The Tides we enjoyed both! The stunning entrance and common areas of the property open onto a beautiful beach dotted with personal cabanas and hammock beds. The walk to our villa on the meandering path through the jungle was a joy every time we took it! Our room was lovely, homey, and very comfortable. We loved having our own patio, hammock, heated pool and dining area. From the exquisite homemade natural soaps to the earthy copal incense, The Tides does not miss a detail and made us feel right at home. We did not experience bug problems (other than some ants the first couple of days), but we did see an impressive array of wildlife (mostly birds and geckos) around our patio area! The restaurant was gourmet and everything we had there was wonderful. We usually enjoy a more down-home and local flair when it comes to our food though, so we made trips into town often for cheaper and more varied Yucatan meals. It was nice to mix it up. That said, the kitchen was always willing to fix us something that wasn't on the menu. Ask for shrimp quesadillas- you won't be disappointed! The cocktails were excellent- I am addicted to the chayitos (mojitos made with chaya instead of mint)! The star of The Tides is its spa! The steam rooms and the spa itself are natural and comfortable, and the spa staff is friendly, helpful, and very professional. I experienced three massages while there: the couples blessing massage (not on the website), the Riviera massage, and a relaxation massage. I HIGHLY recommend the couple's blessing massage (I believe it is called Xaman-Ek), which is performed in a lovely outdoor gazebo and followed by a soak in steaming herb baths carved from tree trunks. After the blessing, you are left alone to soak in your personal tubs, and enjoy champagne and chocolate covered strawberries while basking in the glow of it all! I could have chosen this treatment every day! The price is very reasonable, and it is more than worth every penny. The only exception was the pedicure, which was very disappointing (both in execution and in atmosphere). I realize that this is not a nail place (they don't even have a manicure on the menu), but I had specifically waited to get my pedicure here after seeing it online. It was given in a small, bland room with no plants, candles, incense or windows (nor magazines, music, feet jacuzzi), and there was absolutely no foot or leg massage involved, even though the total time is 45 minutes. They only had about eight paint colors to choose from, and the paint I chose seemed old and did not go on well. I did let them know about my disappointment in the pedicure, and although they did not offer to remove it from our bill, they more than made up for it by offering my husband and I a 30-minute relaxation massage. We were satisfied, and the massages were outstanding. Still, skip the pedi and get your usual place to do it for half the price before you leave for Mexico! The service at The Tides is exceptional, and we felt very well attended to. The service personnel stay connected with each other via walkie-talkie, and we joked that every time we did anything, the nearest employee would report it to the rest of the staff so that everyone knew where we were at all times. At one point, we thought maybe they had the monkeys working for them, too. This felt a little strange, but we realized it was so that we would not be bothered with cleaning service or anything else. These folks take their jobs very seriously, and are beyond apologetic if anything goes wrong. Our concierge, Oscar, was incredibly helpful and intuitive. On several occasions he made recommendations that were exactly what we were looking for. I absolutely recommend The Tides if you are looking for something very unique. The rooms will make you feel very at home, while the front of the property (beach/pool/restaurant) will make you feel like a celebrity living la dolce vita (the good life!). But even if the good life gets to be a bit too much for you at times, the fun, eclectic town of Playa del Carmen is just a 10-15 minute drive away, and makes for a great day or night outing.

"Wonderful experience: Will be back!"
I stayed at The Royal Playa del Carmen for 4 days and nights in mid-July. Amazing resort, close to the beach. Top-notch amenities and the service was exceptional. I really have no complaints as my boyfriend and I had a sublime time there.

"Beautiful stay!"
My husband and I stayed here for one night just until we met up with the rest of my family at a timeshare week at another resort but wish we could have stayed all week!! The grounds are so beautiful, our room had the most beautiful ocean view. We had a preferred club ocean view suite which ended up having a jacuzzi on the balcony overlooking the ocean, the room itself felt like a little hole away from home rather than a hotel room. The decor was great, everything was luxurious and perfect. The preferred club pool was the place to be --- never crowded, servers were on top of things so drinks were flowing- thanks Alvaro! The hammocks overlooking the ocean were a dream. Had amazing Salmon and Risotto at Capers one night and enjoyed Mercure the next but wasn't as good as Capers. Went dancing at night at the club which was just comical and fun - just have to have a drink, loosen up and get out there even though it wasn't really crowded! For $50 extra we got to keep our room till 5pm which was huge since we wanted to hang around for the day before we met up with the rest of my family at another resort for a time share week. All of the wait staff were so friendly and amazing and go above and beyond their jobs. All in all - I can't wait to come back and spend more than the 1 night, 2 days that we did. Such a great trip!

"Wonderful, BUT...."
Went for our honeymoon, booked through travelocity. Requested a King bed, when we arrived they only had us in a 2 full bedroom & said that's only a request because we they didn't know we were honeymooners. The lady at the front was very kind but we had to upgrade for another $70 per night. Was worth the room upgrade because they treated us like royalty the rest of the trip!!

"Great for Family"
The Palladium was great. My wife and I took our kids (14, 10) to Mexico last year. The Palladium was a great choice. There were plenty of activities on the resort itself; we didn't leave the resort for the entire week. Snorkeling was great right off the beach. There were always plenty of chairs available at the pools or the beach. The beach was long, clean and only used by Palladium guests. The buffets weren't bad, the other restaurants were great. Easy access to all areas of the resort via trolly. Oh yeah, iguanas everywhere. Somewhat shocking until you realize where they hang out most of the time. Will definitely go back...at least when the drug cartel issues are fixed in Mexico.

"Beautiful hotel that has everything"
We went with another family, 7 in all and we all had a blast. First of all the hotel is massive with 4 different sections (Kantenah, Colonial, White Sands, Riviera). We stayed at the white sands. Kantenah and Colonial are closer to the sandy beach and White Sands and Riviera closer to rocky beach but are just a short walk through the beautifully landscaped resort. Wherever you stay, you can use the facilities of all of them. I suggest you take the Segway tour the first day. We took it on the last day and it was great but all of us thought it would have been better early on so we could get to know the resort better since it is do large. It takes you to all parts and with the big tires, you get to go on the beach too. As far as the sections, the Kantenah/Colonial main pool and beach had more going on as far as more people there, a kids pool/activity section, beach volleyball, etc. The other side was more laid back with more people just lounging at the pool or beach. We are a pretty active family with an 11 and 17 year old boy so if we went again we would stay at the Kantenah. Since it was so big, it was a little inconvenient to go back and forth from the room. The food was really good. Buffets and separate restaurants. All were good but buffets were really amazing. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Other than massive size (you can get lost), every aspect was superb.

"Great value"
Just returned from 8 nights on July 12 2016. I can't imagine a better place for the price. Rooms were comfortable and AC worked well. Our requested king bed was not available but they moved us day 2 and upgraded our room for the inconvenience. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Lots of activities at 2 big pools, plus quiet pool, and smaller children's pool. Beach very nice and staff worked hard to keep up with removing the sea grass. Lots of lounge chairs on beach and at pools with sun shade. Better to get out early and reserve spot with your towels. Food was very good at both buffet as well as restaurants. Waiter drink service at pools and on beach. No food around pools or on beach so you must dry off and go sit in restaurant. Would have been nice to have lite fare available poolside or on beach. Overall 4 out of 5. If going during summer just be prepared for the heat and take lots of sunscreen. The intense heat also makes the pools way to warm by noon. Colder water in the pools would have really made a big difference.

"All-inclusive resort, great for families"
The place is quite spread out so you only feel the crowds in the large dining areas, one of the pools, or by the beach. Lots to do including lying around the pools, drinking, watching the people, exploring. The spa is terrific, water activities include sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, or paying for scuba trips. There are also organized activities every day at all the pools, some for kids, some for all including dancing, exercising, trivia contests, Spanish lessons, etc. You can take trips into Playa Del Carmen or visit some Mayan ruins, but we never went in the 8 days there, except for one afternoon in PdC. The restaurant choices are extensive, and some are better than others depending upon your taste. Food is plentiful, and the desserts will tighten your clothes if you are not careful. The staff is caring and helpful, the quality of the accommodations are top class, and the iguanas are pretty laid back. We met many people who had returned 3, 6, even 8 times. We could end up one of those...
