Great location

Pros: Andrew the concierge was fantastic. Our last day he had to climb to our room on the 6th fl. and help us down with the luggage due to the power failure
Cons: One mattress was very bad! Extremely poor lighting in room. Dresser drawer had a handle missing. Envelopes not in room to leave tips for maids.
Location: The two restaurants around the corner the front desk recommended were great.
Very helpful staff. Especially Andrew and the other concierge cannot remember his name. I've stayed at your hotel many years ago and loved it. I would prefer an a/c in room, however, it still was comfortable expect for one bed. Should be replaced. Knobs in shower need to be replaced too. Very old and rusty.

Ok, but website pictures are deceiving.

This hotel is very well located but I would rate it as a 3 star hotel. It is a small hotel not too clean and a little dated. The pictures make it look like it's a bigger and upscale hotel but some of the rooms are very small and even smell. The hotel does not provide breakfast and one needs to go out. Once in San Francisco we saw that some other nearby hotels that were about the same price were much better choice. For someone who just wants to be nearby Union Square and doesn't care about those details, it's a well located hotel.

Great Place to Stay just off Union Square

Pros: Location & Staff.
Location: 100 yards from Union Square. Go explore and discover places on your own or ask Bob for recommendations. He won't mislead you!
We stay for a few days every year when we come for the San Francisco Ballet & San Francisco Symphony performance of The Nut Cracker. Rooms and bathrooms are on the small side but that's no issue for us. Short walk to China Town. Hotel Staff EXCELLENT and remember us even though we visit only once a year. Beware of Morton's next door.

great spot

Great location, friendly staff. Traffic was loud but that's expected. The parking was actually pretty convenient and not terribly expensive. Great room and service!

Nice Comfortable Hotel, Great Location

Pros: Cleanliness, comfort, location.
Cons: Furnishings were a little dated.
For me the three most important things for a hotel are: cleanliness, comfort and location. Comfortable to me means a comfortable bed with soft sheets, controllable room temperature and blinds that block out the morning light. This hotel succeeded on all these counts. It was November and the weather was cool and I like my room a bit cool at night so I can't say what it would be like in the summer. The window can be opened a bit which allowed the cool air to come into the room. Noise doesn't bother me but that didn't seem to be an issue at this location. This is a smaller hotel with character. The decor was a little dated looked good and the bed was very comfortable. Had a great sleep and the location was great, half a block from Union Square.

Location was great.

The staff was less than desirable. The location for ice was way too far.

Very unique

I was trying to save money by staying at this hotel, and I was not disappointed.  Sure, it's older, but it had updates where I wanted them, like the bathroom.  The bed was very comfortable, and the room was clean and quiet!  What more can I ask for?  Also, the staff went out of their way for a very small request, which I appreciated.

Friendly staff

Pros: Free Internet
This hotel was very comfortable and welcoming. The entire staff was very friendly and welcoming. The room was small for a family of four but had everything we needed, so we managed just fine. The hotel is in a great location.

Comfortable, great location

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet
The Kensington Park is a pleasant combination of old and new: A 1925-vintage building with quite modern amenities throughout, a stone's throw from Union Square and easy walking distance from BART. Unlike some other hotels, their high-speed WiFi actually is credible (I got 9Mbps consistently in my room.) Good insulation from city noise (also unlike some other SF hotels), although I ended up opening my window a couple of nights to enjoy the sounds of Union Square buskers. My room was on the small side, but well laid out and not cramped. Only caveat is that there are no in-room safes, and the safety deposit boxes at the front desk are quite small. But generally high marks all around; it's on my short list for future stays.

I would not recommend this hotel

Cons: Noisy, no air conditioning
We were not advised that this hotel had no air conditioning;Booked for 3 nights in advance but were only able to get through one night. Their answer to no air was ----open a window. Due to constant noise from deliveries on the street side of the hotel and emergency vehicle sirens, this was an unpleasant experience for even the one night.
