You get what you pay for

It was clean. It was close to Fisherman's Warf. That's what I got. I would pay the extra money next time for a nicer room.

older/cheaper option in ideal location

Pros: location, room size
Cons: decor, wifi
i have stayed here a few times because of the location, and generally has been one of the cheaper options in the neighborhood. rooms are nice enough and a decent size. could use some updating of course, but i doubt that will happen anytime soon. seemed as clean as they could get with the aging decor. tv had good service, but terrible quality. shower pressure was surprising strong. even at the end very end of the hotel, you will hear the street traffic, but nothing to really lose sleep over. in one of the ideal SF neighborhoods, tons of restaurants, easy walks down to the marina, chinatown, north beach, or bus to other parts of the city. the wifi was painfully slow a lot of the time. asked for an extension on my reservation and was given a discounted rate, even more than using online coupons, so doesnt hurt to ask if you need extra nights.

Oracle Open World

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet
Cons: Noisy, Poor breakfast
I stayed here for the JavaOne/Oracle Open World conference. The motel was one of the only ones available as I booked somewhat late. Because hotels are at a premium during the conference the rates at Castle Inn were extremely high. Castle Inn is almost three miles away from the conference and they offer no shuttle service...though they are willing to call a taxi or help you figure out the SF muni bus schedule. The motel itself is extremely old and dated...the free wi-fi they offer was terrible even on my wireless N card (which worked great on the conference's wi-fi) and I couldn't even check in for my flight because of constant disconnects. The water in the bathtub was brown when it 1st came out of the shower/tub in the mornings. They offer muffins and fruit bars for breakfast. There is no lobby or exercise room...though they offer a discount at a local gym. They charge for using the phone in the room even for local phone calls. When they changed the sheets on the bed they didn't change the pillow cases...I only hope they change them between guests...I could tell because one of the pillow cases had a worn hole in it and I had the same one throughout my stay. The fresh towels I received throughout the week often had long black hairs in them...I'm guessing they came from the cleaning person. The best thing about the stay was that the front office staff was friendly and the location had some activities by it...though nothing like what was offered at/near the main conference hotels.

Great place in San Francisco to spend the night

Pros: Free Internet
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The location is great if you want to be right in the center of the San Francisco experience. I really enjoyed my stay there.

Great find!

We were on a short family vacation and wanted to stay in San Franscisco. We were on a tight budget and I thought everything would be very expensive. However, this hotel had some good reviews and the price was certainly right. It lived up to the expectations and more. The front desk/owner was extremely helpful with directions and suggestions. We were near the cable cars and within walking distance of Fishermen's Wharf and Chinatown (granted, you do get your exercise!). There were plenty of items for the continental breakfast, but since there wasn't a dining area, it was more of a ""to go"" back to the room. The free parking was in a secure location. The rooms were nice and very clean.

Nice Stay

My husband and I were visiting for our anniversary. The hotel is plain, nice room size but ordinary. There was plenty of parking (& free for guests), but you don't need a car. Hotel is close to bus routes & only a 15 minute walk to the Wharf (but uphill on the way back). The best part, though, was the front dest manager. She was friendly and SO helpful. She knew the bus routes & gave great advice about where to go & where not to go in San Francisco. She also knew about all the activities going on during our stay.

Good Times

Spend your money on the time you spend awake. This hotel is not a resort hotel, but it had everything we needed, big bed, clean room and a great and freindly staff that help you get around the city and had great recomendations for sites and dinning. We were totalily satisfied and happy to have stayed at this hotel. For the price of the room, and the friendly staff , this is a great place to stay.
