Great Location

Pros: Location, location, location.
Cons: Room was small. Sink outside bathroom on other side of the room. Old-style vent in bottom of bathroom door - self-conscious about your flatulence?
Location: Restaurants and watering holes all in walking distance. Cable cars, trolleys, and buses right outside your door.
Spent a couple of days in San Francisco with my wife as part of a broader vacation plan. No problem with a very late check-in due to a red-eye flight from New York. Hotel centrally located to everything we wanted to do. Actually, that's not exactly true because we didn't actually plan on doing anything - we were playing it all by ear without an itinerary. With Google in-hand and the Cable Cars a block away we kept busy and entertained. Had a great steak at the restaurant adjoining the hotel. Was a little disappointed that they closed at 10pm - had gone down to the bar for a beer just before midnight to find them cleaning up. Was leaving San Francisco and asked the concierge the best way to get to Emeryville for our trip on Amtrak's California Zephyr. He promptly got on the phone with Amtrak and had our itinerary changed to include a low-cost Amtrak Shuttle Bus from the nearby Temporary Trans-Bay Terminal. Very Helpful.

Close to Union Square

Pros: Nice place to stay.Staff was great and very friendly.
Cons: Room temps need to be able to be adjusted.
Location: all kinds of shopping and places to eat.Close to do a bus tour of the town if you like.Or to take a trolley car.
You are right in the middle of all the action Union Square as to offer.Lots of shopping and dining in a short walk.I will be going back in August and will use the hotel again.

In town for work

Pros: Location and old time charm
Cons: Bathroom in need of upgrade.
Location: Union Square. Short walk to Ferry Building. Tons of great restaurants and shopping.
My overall stay was very enjoyable. The hotel is older and is in need of a renovation, but it was very comfortable. It was reasonably priced and in the heart of Union Square. An easy walk to BART and the convention center. I enjoyed breakfast and dinner at the Daily Grill, which is attached to the hotel. The food was delicious and priced right for the portions. I would stay here again on my next visit to the city.

Centrally located / Convenient

Pros: Central location.
Cons: It is what it is re parking -- not much can be done.
Location: Almost right next door to Lefty's -- you can walk to AT&T Park; Union Square shops, restaurants and pubs all nearby plus Bisquits & Blues jazz place.
Centrally located hotel within walking distance to all Union Square dining, drinks, shops and you can walk to AT&T. Hotel has a older/ 'classic' set of rooms where we stayed - OK space wise but rooms are a bit musty as can be expected with hotel built at least 75 years ago. Did not go into newer section. The lobby has a hallway right into the Grill Restaurant which is good food/ drink place, quality food with prices to match. A perpetual issue in The City - parking !! Parking a vehicle is inconvenient and expensive. From the Handlrey we parked two blocks up and one block to the East in parking garage off Taylor -- $45 per day. Overall, however, this hotel provides a centrally located place to see the sights and enjoy what the City has to offer.

great SF location. hotel has a good restaurant.

Pros: We liked the location of the hotel. It is close to Union Square, good shopping art galleries and good dining.
Cons: The rooms could be more quiet and comfortable.
this hotel is in a historic building across from Union Square. The restaurant is traditional SF style with good food well served. We were disappointed in our rooms. Ours was small, uncomfortable and poorly arranged. Our friend's room was a connected room that faced the street and was quite noisy.

3 star hotel, 3 star experience

Pros: convenience to the shopping areas, that's it.
Cons: if freshness could be added to the rooms then that is what it would need.
Location: Extremely easy for shopping. Public transport easy. Homelessness is a big problem in this area and hustlers are everywhere.
The hotel location was certainly convenient to the shopping area, however If I were to do it again, I would pay the extra to stay in a 4 star. If you are use to seeing homeless people in abundance and if you don't mind being hassled by people asking for money then the location of this hotel won't bother you. The room was small and had a smell of an older hotel. I would have preferred to pay the extra to stay a little off the main shopping area. It would have been easy enough to walk to. If you aren't there primarily for the shopping then I would not recommend it.
