"My Birthday weekend"
I had a great time at Hawks Cay I have traveled all around the world with my wife and your resort came really close to us thinking we were in Hawai again. The food was amazing and not over priced and the staff was very friendly. The only thing I didn't like about this resort is that anyone can walk in from outside and use the pool and the lagoon area I feel if I have to pay a resort fee then so do they that's the only reason I didn't give you guys all 5 stars other then that everything else was perfect.

"Beautiful, but lookout for unexpected $urpri$e$"
We stayed in a 2 BR 1.5 bath villa. BRs upstairs, full kitchen and sitting room downstairs, outside deck, great water views. The facility was VERY well maintained, and everything was basically clean and up-to-date. Watch out areas: 1) Space: Overall, there's plenty of room in the villa, but the bedrooms themselves are just too small. The closet is tiny, the nightstands are fully consumed by the lamps and phone and alarm clock, and you end up tripping over yourself. We were only there 4 days, with carry-on bags, and it was cramped. 2) Resort Fees: They have a supplemental resort fee, which really ought to be built in to the room rate in order for the cost comparisons one inevitably makes in selecting a far-away vacation spot to be logical. On top of that, they made a big point at check of taking a +$200 / day hold on your credit card for your "incidentals". I guess every hotel takes some kind of a hold for incidentals, but the amount struck me as 'over the top', at least given my plans for using their restaurants and services. 3) Third, and most aggravating to me on the cost side, was the way they implemented "no tipping" for their restaurants. They simply add 18% to the bill as a gratuity, then invite you to add more when you sign the check. On at least one occasion, this resulted in my giving an 18% tip on a $65 lunch bill where I was completely dissatisfied with the service, and wouldn't have tipped at all. All-in-all, I guess I'd say that I prefer the concept of tipping for meal service in the "normal" American way, where the waiters understand that their income is dependent on giving good service. 4) Fourth: After check-in, it was difficult to find our villa. The receptionist showed me a map and pointed the general direction, but it was at least half a mile, with four turns, and the street / porch lighting was insufficient to easily find your way. They should have provided an escort for a 10 pm check-in. Good luck if it's raining! After all that you're probably surprised that I recommend this place. Sorry if I've confused you, but it's really a great place. Now that I know what to expect, I'll just recalibrate the price upward by about 25 or35% and I'm pretty sure I'll go back.

"Quaint and Clean MARATHON KEY Hotel"
Complete with kitchen and full size frig, bedroom in back as a separate room/suite from living room - nice touch!  Bathroom was small and no hair dryer but room was clean and spacious. Nice pool by canal, complete with boat ramp and slips for your boat! Right across the street is an awesome mom and pop breakfast/lunch restaurant "Wooden Spoon".

"Cute, quirky, and affordable."
We decided on Coconut Cay because it was within our price range on Travelocity and despite some negative reviews, the ownership replied to each review, which showed they really cared about travelers' experiences. As someone in the tourism industry, this is important to me. Too many people complain after the fact when they could have issues rectified, or perhaps they just didn't expect what was clearly laid out for them. If you're interested in affordable little oasis, funky colors, free amenities like kayaks, paddle boats, bbqs, fishing rods, and bikes, and don't mind kind of a vintage hotel look and feel inside, this is the place for you. We got what seems like the best room in the place, 62, with a semi-private patio looking out to the canal and a little grass lot. They have some cute parrots that add to the environment, a pool, a horseshoe pit. The rooms are adequately furnished (though our hotel lights and power outlets were a little funky), but don't expect super high quality bedding. You get what you pay for in the hotel room itself, it's everything else that makes this place a great deal and me extremely loyal to it. It is right off the main drag and right next to the airport, so be aware you'll hear planes and traffic. Some of the rooms face the main road, so that's a bummer. If you're looking for a bit more of a quiet getaway, I'd call the hotel and ensure you're not in those rooms.

"Just what we wanted."
Casa Del Sol is showing some age in places and is certainly not the Ritz, but it was clean and well located. We had a two bedroom unit on the third (top) floor. It had a full kitchen, washer and dryer, a big screen T.V. with a DVD player, and smaller T.V.'s in each bedroom. You can get books and DVDs in the office (free). There were two screened in balconies with double doors that opened out onto them, one from the living room and one from the bedroom. One night we had a thunderstorm and slept with those doors wide open... just heaven for two Midwesterners in the middle of winter. The pool is smallish but very clean. Beach is small too, but it is the Keys. There were many good restaurants ( not fancy, but nice laid back local places with great food and friendly people), two fish markets, and two good grocery stores within ten miles. We enjoyed our stay...just to get out into warm air and do nothing was what we wanted. We were comfortable doing just that at Casa Del Sol. Only two negatives... beds not great and water pressure in the shower was downright lousy. We also could have used a doorstop to keep the french doors to our balcony open...but we used a big pot of water and it worked fine. All in all we really liked it, liked the area, and will probably go back. Everyone we talked to there from the young people that worked in the office to the guy cleaning the pool were friendly and helpful. This is not a place for frou frou city people who expect room service and night life, but we thought it was great. Our room number was 207.
