This is not a resort, but is trying to be. It took us over half an hour to check in because "the new system" wasn't working. Clerk had to go through emails to find reservation because it was not in computer. We had had two rooms reserved for over three weeks, but put us in separate buildings at least 300 yards apart. The room was spacious and the bed was good but floor was not really clean. Shower leaked because of design so water came out onto bathroom floor . Water pressure in sink was poor. Breakfast was abysmal. First day there were no plates--just napkins. Microwave was dirty with melted cheese on it both days. Only highly processed and sealed in plastic products were available, except for some good Chobani yogurt. Bottled juice was ok, but no fresh fruit (in Florida!). Room itself was dark. Staff were friendly but uninformed. Clerk told us about Happy Hour but when we walked to bar, there was no happy hour and not much to choose from. Check-out took at least forty minutes, and we were supposedly refunded one our of four resort fees--have not confirmed that yet. It was not enough. Every other customer we interacted with was unhappy as well. I think the staff means well and the property could, with a lot of work, become a pleasant resort, but now it's a mess. We are currently at a Travelodge for less money but it is far superior.

No bikes. No fridge in room, it was a cooler. Heated pool was nice & hot tub too but closed at sunset. Location great. Ad says meals are free, which indicates included but $30 per day was added to fees to cover, in addition to parking. So add $50 per day, which is fine but disclose it in your ad.

They charged for parking onsite $20 a night. Surprise. Promised in room amenities weren’t there everything had to be asked for. Towels. Room cleaned. Water. In room phones don’t work. TV didn’t work. Electrical outlets didn’t all work. Ran out of towels, coffee, creamers, cups in the room. Breakfast was horrible. Available 8 to 10. There 9:10. No food left. Served Jimmy Dean sandwiches, yogurt, cereal. No spoons, no tea, no coffee, no orange juice. Couldn’t find anyone to restock for 15 minutes then took 15 minutes to stock everything up. Rooms were good, not great. Pool was great.

I really feel - this resort could be great - but it's not quote hitting the mark right now. Plus, we had a few unexpected charges, which the girls on reception weren't able to really help with - although, once did waive a fee, I think it was still charged to us. The 'resort fee' seemed really for nothing and parking very expensive really. Breakfast was okay, various options - but to my point above of just missing - they provided all sorts of items you needed a spoon to eat, but had no spoons. The bar down by the water could have been lovely, but it didn't open as they had no staff. A movie night could be even nicer there too for e.g. On checkout they couldn't work the printer so i couldn't' see the bill - i am 100% sure I have been over charged but despite trying to contact them via expedia and directly, no -one has had the courtesy to reply. The rooms were good size, comfortable - had fridge, coffee maker. The AC was quite noisy if you need to use that or heating. The taco truck a couple of mins walk away was great. It's just off the highway so easy to find and accessible for the wider keys, and at a good budget option vs other hotels. I just felt they had some nice ideas that weren't quite followed through enough and the billing issues left a bit of a sour taste. But, a budget option that worked for us - it's just a bit of a shame as i think it would be lovely.

Groundsmen and cleaning staff were nice and helpful but the staff at the front desk were terrible. The two girls didn't even know what the fees were for upon check-in, and nobody was there upon checkout. The office hours as posted on the front door were 7am to 11pm. At 7:30, no one was there and the doors were locked while I needed to checkout and get a receipt for the charges they couldn't explain to me. Walked around the back of the building and found a staff member with headphones in making coffee. Finally got her attention to help me checkout. Front desk staff is useless and incompetent.

My waterfront room? The water had to be what was in the roadside drainage ditch. My room smelled strongly like mold and the bay smelled like sewage. With my respiratory issues, I could not stay there. They charged me $450 for 1 night, even though I didn’t stay there and it cost me another $500 to stay in a clean spot down the road. I’m still waiting for the refund of $4,600 for the rest of my stay. 😷

The hotel management should put a note that after 11pm all customers have to be aware that nobody can help you on anything that will happen to you after 11pm you are on your own. It’s scary to stay at banana bay after 11pm they don’t have securities to watch the area help will be the next day at 7am when they open. We booked a room there we arrived before 11pm we checked in we got in our room then went outside to go to the car to unload our bags but we forgot our room keys inside the room we went right away to the office for help the office was close. we walked went to the bar in the neighborhood to get help. The manager of the bar walked with us back to the hotel as we also left our phones inside the hotel room. The bar manager kept on calling the phone number of the hotel nobody will answer he advised us to park infront of the office of the hotel the security might be able to check on us and help us. We sit in our tiny car the whole night we parked our car in front of the office of the hotel but nobody helped us. At 7am someone from the office came and told us there is no way the customer will be able to get ahold of the hotel management after 11pm customers will be on their own For that customers should be aware that nobody can help you from banana bay at night for me that is a scary hotel to stay it’s unsafe. Unsafe to stay at banana bay after 11pm they should let customers know about this it’s unsafe to stay there. Don’t consider this place on staying.

They overbooked their rooms by a lot. I saw at least 5-10 families driving 4 hours to the resort and they said they don’t have any rooms. This is when you paid all in total before and you even called them a day before to confirm reservation. They overbooked and then do not prioritize Expedia/hotels.com customer as those are discounted rates. Do not book this hotel as you can be cheated. They only had one person helping guests and checkin/checkout gets backed up. We had to wait 30 mins to just know they are overbooked. Person also didn’t take call from Expedia for 1 hour and made all different families wait.

Breakfast is between 8-10 am .By 9 am everything is gone and nobody is there to refill anything .No coffee after 9:30 am and they will not refill it.Other good coffee places are far and not worth driving just for coffee from the location. The coffee in the room is terrible and best to avoid it .Rooms are ok but we saw lot of red ants on the walls near the windows.

Booked a room on Expedia; however, was told the booking confirmation had never been sent to the resort. All the rooms were booked and no room available for us. The receptionist said this happened to more than 40 parties on that night. Had to spend more than 2 hours in the car calling Expedia to find a replacement hotel. When finally got a room, it was almost midnight. Very bad experience.

I was unable to check in to banana baby because there was no reservation when I showed up. After multiple hours on the phone call with no results I ended up having to get another hotel so that my family wouldn’t have to sleep in our car. Hotels.com refuses to refund me the original payment that I paid without a charging me a cancellation fee, even though there was no reservation at the hotel to cancel. I am currently in talks with the Better Business Bureau in hopes of recovering my money that hotels.com still.

We didn’t get to stay here because when we arrived at night after our weather delayed flight, they had sold our room. They had no availability. Multiple families were left outside stranded in the same situation in the dark. My family with small children was left stranded by ourselves in the middle of the night to search for another hotel but everything from key west to key largo was sold out! My poor children had to sleep in our rental car. We are hopeful this hotel and Expedia will refund us and do the right thing for their error and greed! Absolutely terrible situation! Beware!

The entire building and the room smelled of mold and were damp. There were no towels in the room. The area looked unkempt. It wasn’t worth the money. The place is not a resort; it’s more like a cheaper inn. They charged an extra $50 for unforeseen expenses and have not followed up. In addition, they charged an extra $9 to the card without explaining why.
