Disappointing and dirty

Hotel is very outdated and is filthy. Rooms have not been actually cleaned in years. Carpets smell of a combination of animal urine and cigarette smoke. Furniture is broken, cabinets do not close, closet doors do not work, dishes are put away dirty. Towels and bed sheets are stained. Pillows are placed on the dirty carpet (which really has not been cleaned in probably 20 years) before making the bed. Housekeepers "clean" with a dry towel. The frozen food/fake eggs are sometimes not thawed/heated properly (i.e. the frozen sausages were cold). The same towel to clean the counters is used to wipe down the serving tongs. Front desk staff are nice but they do not have the power to maintain the hotel. There are many other hotels in the area - go elsewhere to stay. This hotel is an embarrassment to the Hyatt name.

Hyatt House

My daughter and I stayed at the Hyatt House after she had surgery at Boston Children's Lexington. The check in clerk was very thoughtful. He saw that she'd just had surgery and upgraded us from a one-bedroom to a two-bedroom space. That was really thoughtful and worked out well! The rooms were comfortable and we ordered a nice dinner from the hotel. My only complaint was that the room temperature was set low enough that it was uncomfortably chilly and the thermostat had a cover that did not allow it to be adjusted. I didn't want someone coming into the room to wake my daughter so I didn't call about it, but the temperature was really quite cold and there were no extra blankets in the room.

Disappointed

Our stay at this at this location was an unpleasant one. This was a two bedrooms king suite. We stayed at other locations and generally like it. Atter checked in the first day, we went out late and came back to a hotel room (217) with a broken air conditioner. It was late (around after 1AM) so we did not call the hotel staff knowing that probably not thing that they can do. That was a mistake, it was late July days and the temperature in our room got really, really hot, very uncomfortable to sleep. We all got up a little after 5AM after couldn't sleep in the heat anymore. Nice, cold showers were very nice. We notified the hotel staff when we came down for breakfast but were told that there was not any room available to switch. The hotel sent the maintenance person to fix it but was unrepairtavle. The front desk staff told us that they would have room available to move us after 3PM and offered to move our luggages to the new room when it be came available. The second room had working air conditioner. Yeah! Hours late one of the toilet plugged up and over flown, yucks! The hotel maintenance person came but was not able to fix it and told not not to use the bathroom anymore. That was the last of it as we checked out the following morning. When we checked out, no one bothered mentioning nor offering any apology for the issue. Notes should be taken by the hotel staff and share with the managers and other staffs.

Cleanliness is not next to godliness here!

Pros: Decent hot breakfast provided daily. Rooms are large and the bedroom can be separated from the living space.
Cons: The manager needs to perform his duties to keep the place clean. Hall carpets need to be cleaned/replaced; more designated handicapped parking space
Location: The facility is off a major highway with several decent restaurants and a nearby Costco.
The hotel is in need of a good cleaning. The hall rugs smell of stale smoke; the rooms are poorly maintained. The heat in our room was impossible to regular. In off mode, the room temperature reached 80 degrees; with the air on, we were able to keep the temperature at 70 degrees. We were there in late Nov/early Dec. We had maintenance up to fix the closet door that were off track and curtains that were pulled off their hooks; to try to correct the heat (never functioned properly); to fix the phone that didn't work; add to replace missing knobs to cabinets; to repair a damaged sofa (never completed); and to vacuum the rugs that were never vacuumed during the two weeks we were there. In fact, the maid spilled coffee grinds from our garbage onto the rug and left them there. The room had a kitchen with a full stove; dishes, pots and pans and a full-sized refrigerator. The inside of the over was greasy; we rewashed all of the dishes as some had been put away dirty. The repair staff and front desk staff were cordial; the manager appeared lazy/disinterested. To add to the problem, we returned one evening after an eight hour absence to find our room door wide-opened. I ended up throwing out opened sterile meds, as they appeared to have been moved. (I was there for eye surgery and post-follow-up doctor visits.) Not a place you'd want to stay, if cleanliness is a concern. There are lots of other hotel options in the area.

Maintenance Needed

Our room was in need of many repairs; daily maintenance was very poor. Our sliding-closet doors didn't move; our room phone didn't work; the couch was ripped; curtain were torn from hooks; oven was greasy; knobs we're missing from cabinets; carpet was filthy and they vacuumed once during our 17 night stay at our insistence; the heat was dry with limited control. The halls smelled of stale cigarette smoke. We asked the manager to make repairs. When we returned 9 hours later our room door was left wide opened. I was there because I had surgery in Boston and I ended up throwing out the sterile medicines that were opened because I was afraid they may have been tampered with. Breakfast is served every morning and the rooms are equipped with a full kitchen. The hotel was quiet and has a decent sized outdoor pool for seasonal use. The manager needs to take an active supervisory role and make the necessary improvements before guests arrive. All rugs need a deep cleaning. The heating system needs updating. With the heat on, we couldn't get the room below 80 degrees! There are no instructions in the room for this system and there should be!

The toilet ran constantly. The linen for the pullout bed looked like it had been slept on already...the pillow had 2 cases and the inside case was dirty with hair on it. The stove and fridge were NOT clean and no fire extinguisher in the room. There was also a funny smell to the room as well. Will not stay here again.

Top notch service

Pros: High quality customer service. See above.
Cons: Decor is dated. Found spot on the bathroom wall where there was water damage that needed repair.
Location: Lots of new construction in the surrounding industrial and business park. No fast food close. Nicer restaurants were within walking distance.
Stayed at Hyatt House in Waltham for 5 nights for a work conference. While the hotel itself is older and in need of some slight renovation, it was the service that blew me away. After checking in, the staff called me by name thereafter. They were very quick to respond to any need, no matter big or small, for me and my conference group. They provided complimentary sodas and coffee without being asked on two occasions. And when checking out, they helped me use Uber (iphone app) for the first time and help me get a 50% off discount, which saved me $50 on my trip back to the airport. I was told the hotel will undergo remodeling within the next 18 months. Even if it didn't, I would stay there again just because of the service.
