Mixed Experience – Great Location, But Several Issues
I visited Houston with friends for a weekend getaway and booked a place through VRBO. The booking process started smoothly but got stressful when my reservation was canceled a day before the trip due to identity verification issues. Customer service helped, but the timing made it nerve-wracking.The property was in a decent area—near a university and downtown. It was attached to a law office, which wasn’t a big deal. We received check-in instructions, but no warning about the tricky front door lock. All weekend, it took 3–4 tries each time to open.The unit was clean but smelled stale, like it needed airing out. One bathroom was locked. We reported it, but the owner never responded and only unlocked it—unannounced—on our last day. We had to share one bathroom all weekend.The first night, we returned late and easily opened the gate, but spent 10 minutes getting the front door to work. The next morning, I couldn’t exit the locked side gate to walk my dog. There’s also very little grass, so pet owners take note.One night, the gate wouldn’t open automatically when we attempted to drive out—we had to figure out how to open it manually.Overall, great location, but I wouldn’t stay again due to poor communication and repeated issues with the lock, bathroom, and gate.
