Classy Hotel in the Middle of Downtown

Stayed at the Magnolia for the Day for Night music festival because it was walking distance to the festival grounds. No complaints - even the basic room was huge, comfortable bed, and fantastic shower with good water pressure and a deep tub. We took advantage of the free cookie bar at night and one of the staff took a fabulous picture of us in front of the Christmas tree when we were checking out. Recommend visiting in December - lots of great deals to be had for a fancy hotel stay.

Love this place!

Pros: We liked the staff the most. We picked the hotel for it's location and it was perfect.
Location: The summoning of the car from the valet could be a little simpler.
The Magnolia has the perfect staff. We were treated by everyone and they were all knowledgeable about the hotel and the surroundings. There was great space in our room where we felt right at home. The amenities were great and I am sure we will stay there again.

Nice older hotel, close to downtown.

Pro: Location, shuttle that travels a mile and a half to downtown area. Con: Bedding, sheets were not comfortable. Overall, very nice hotel with great amenities.

Deep in the heart of Houston.

Pros: everything except the sheets
Cons: the beds sheets were very itchy and pillie (pilley). Curtain (sheer) was missing on one window and on another window the curtain (sheer) was torn)
Location: Downtown Houston across from a beautiful church, near Houston Rockets and the Alley Theatre and great restaurants.
Magnolia Hotel - great beds, great bath products, good satisfying breakfast, free happy hour AND delicious cookes and milk right before bedtime. Highly recommend.

Definitely not a luxury hotel

Pros: The staff for the most part was very friendly and accommodating. The free (but give them a tip cheapskate)downtown hotel SUV came in handy.
Cons: Can't fit it in 150 characters!
Location: Centrally located to downtown office buildings and good restaurants nearby like Vic& Anthony's, Irma's, Massa Blue and don't miss Frank's Pizza
I spent four nights here last week and, luckily, only paid about half of the published rates thanks to Travelocity. The moment I stepped into the lobby to check in they were jack hammering and ripping up carpeting on the second floor and I could barely hear the girl checking me in. Granted, that did not last more than 24 hours. But, they have their "business office" which consists of one computer and printer on the second floor so that when I went to use it my feet stuck to the glue on the floor. Worse, it was not free and in fact it was insulting. They charge $6.95 for a minimum 15 minute session just to use it and 79 cents/page to print anything! Housekeeping was hit or miss like leaving a scrub brush on my sink, not replacing toilet paper until there was like one sheet left...in fact there was no extra roll of toilet paper in the bathroom. Breakfast included was decent but I rather preferred to eat my left over pizza instead! The valet guys were great and the hotel SUV came in handy but it only goes around in the downtown area. It is complimentary but I gave the guys 5 bucks tip anyway. Off the hotel subject, I used Uber about 20 times in the 4 days and it is very inexpensive....but many of them couldn't find Dunkin Donuts without a GPS! cab fare from the airport to downtown was about twice as much as Uber Fitness center was a joke

Comment from Hotel Management

Dear Traveler, Thank you for taking the time to submit a review of your stay. We did have work going on on the 2nd floor. We are extremely excited to have brand new carpeting in our restaurant and lounge, all our meeting rooms and ballrooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Unfortunately, we had to do this work at some point. Being a 24 hour business, there is never a good time to do noisy work, however, we felt late morning/early afternoon was better than any since most of our guests are out of the hotel at that time. Sorry for the inconvenience this caused during your check in. Sorry you were disappointed in our business center, it is standard practice for hotels to charge for these services. Feel free in the future to send your documents to the staff at the Front Desk and they will be more than happy to print them out for you anytime! Although I can not defend the brush left behind by our housekeeping team, and sincerely apologize for this inexcusable oversight, we do stand by our waiting to replace toilet paper. Thousands of pounds of paper are wasted annually by hotels throwing away half used rolls of toilet paper. We work hard to do our part to minimize that waste by recycling and/or donating as much of our half used bath amenities and stained linen and terry as churches and shelters and schools etc will take and we are very proud to do so! I am glad you were able to use our complimentary shuttle while staying with us as well. It is a great asset to our guests and a pleasure for our Valet team to get to know our guests in the time they spend with each other. Again, thank you for your review, and for staying with us, have a great week!
