The rooms were updated and clean. The staff was very nice. The lobby furniture was very tired and stained - It was clear the renovations didn’t get that far. The biggest challenge was they were three small elevators and one of those was out of order. There was always a wait to get on the elevator in fact there was a line in the lobby a few times. The additional area for food was very cold and drafty.

Dear Kim, thank you for being our guest and for letting us know you had an overall nice time with us. However, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused due to the elevators and breakfast area. We certainly understand your frustration; we want to assure you that we are aware this is an issue and we are working on a solution. We hope to see you back soon. Great location, great staff, great hotel!

Pros: Location.
Cons: Heaters should be checked more often.
Location: Located just down the road from Penn Station, the Javits Center and Times Square - everything of Midtown is within walking distance.
My experience began with meeting a smiling face that belonged to a front counter helper named James. James was assisting customers with their luggage and directing the masses of people coming in to seats where they could unwind for a moment from the devastating cold outside as they checked in to the Element. Check-in was smooth and quick. We were hours early, so James took our luggage for us so that we could leave and explore New York City until our rooms became available. Upon returning, our rooms were ready and we ascended to see our quarters. My co-workers room was the same as mine, however, her heater was working while mine had some sort of glitch. Though it was FREEZING outside, I didn't mind the room being a crisp 66 degrees - its the setting I normally have at a hotel - so, I didn't complain and by the last night by some miracle, the heater suddenly started working and made the room super toasty. Despite that, the hotel was awesome. The staff were very friendly. The morning continental breakfast was standard. The location made it prime to walk to Times Square or find food fast or attend the conference we were there for at the Javits Center by Uber, bus or walking. I highly recommend it for anyone that hasn't stayed in Manhattan before.

Disappointingly Small

Pros: Location and the international clientele.
Cons: Honesty about the standard room size.
Let me start with the positive. Since we were going to the theater, the hotel's location could not have been better. We were also entering The Holland Tunnel within 5 minutes of exiting the parking garage. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable and we are both fussy about the bed. The bathroom was nice and recently updated. The major disappointment was the room size. On the hotel's website, it states the standard room is 315 sg ft. The room was maybe 180. It was difficult for us to navigate around the bed. I contacted the front desk and they said I got the room I paid for. I mentioned the huge discrepency between the web site description and the reality of it. They did not try to defend it and just kept saying I got the room I paid for. In retrospect, I should have called Travelocity immediately. When Travelocity contacted them the hotel staff said I had a kitchenette as if this was a separate room. The small kitchen facility was part of the 150-180 sq ft. The hotel has 3 small elevators and 40 floors. At peak times it may take you 10 minutes to get an elevator up or down. We were on the 5th floor and chose to take the steps down most times. But this is NY and all buildings are tall. The breakfast was decent and at peak hours quite crowded. Each room has a tray to bring it back to your room however the room is so small, it makes eating here tenuous. They did keep items replenished at all times. The lobby is very small and very crowded most of the time.

Has potential

WHAT WAS GOOD- 1- Good location close to time square and subway. 2- The room was cute and clean with a good view from 36th floor. The small kitchen was convenient. 3- The breakfast had a good variety of foods, healthy options, and plenty of food (which is saying a lot given the hords of people going through every morning). 4- The staff was friendly and helpful (if obviously overworked) even going out of their way to grab us some breakfast items from the back when we arrived after the closing time due to circumstances I will mention later. WHAT WAS WRONG- 1- This was one of the most crowded hotels I've ever been in. There were lines to check in, lines for the elevator, lines for breakfast, lines, lines, lines. 2- One of the only 3 elevators was broken. It was IMPOSSIBLE to get an elevator to breakfast in the morning. I walked down 36 flights of stairs the first day. Almost Missed breakfast the next day (I mentioned above that a helpful staff member saved me.) Then figured out that if we sent our teenage son down about 10 floors he could catch an elevator on the way up and push our floor button to pick us up. Even that usually took 30 minutes to get downstairs. 3- Although the breakfast was good, it was so crowded there was rarely anywhere to sit (and there was No WAY we were going back up to room to eat and brave the elevator situation again!) We never got coffee supplies in our room to, at least, make coffee in our room. ASK ABOUT ELEVATORS before staying here!

So conveniently located

4th stay at the Element. Only complaint is the hand-held shower getting water all over the bathroom floor. Which was, I will add, very clean.

Great lovation

Nice hotel with a great location. Only problem we had was that breakfast was really crowded. The food was delicious and we liked that it was complimentary.
