Met Expectations

Pros: Price, location, and no frills concept.
Cons: Water
Location: Midtown area on 51st between 2nd and 3rd Av. Walking distance to things I was looking for and subway. Convenient to LGA.
I needed a room in Manhattan over Thanksgiving weekend on short notice. While I'm not their target market, this POD51 was the perfect fit for my needs. The midtown location made everything within walk distance. Room rate was most competitive of available options. Staff was excellent and made us feel very welcome. Was able to check-in early. Had the queen bed with private bath. Really like the concept. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the hot water. The first morning was only lukewarm. By the time I reported it, staff had it already repaired. That evening water as very hot. Next morning, only warm. Hope they get this worked out. While not my natural first choice, would definitely consider it again.

I stay here a Ton!

I stay here a lot; no really, a real lot. The front staff recognize me and are very pleasant. This is how it works folks. From the time I arrive at the front desk and get to my room, and take a fast shower it usually is in a 20 minute span. Check in usually takes 3 minutes. It's a 20 hold for incidentals, they take cash for the incidental hold which is a bonus as I travel a ton and I am tired of holds on cards constantly from numerous hotels, so this cash hold helps. Check out time is at 12 noon; big bonus for the city. The showers are never packed and they are always clean which is very hard for a hostel type setting with shares bathrooms. Try to get a corner room as with a single pod the space can be much bigger for you; than a traditional pod single. Mei Noodle shop is right around the corner on 2nd avenue; arguably the best Chinese in Manhattan. It's not for everyone the Pod; but you'll know ota for you each time you stay there after the first time. Give it a whirl - Ken

Convenient, clean and priced well

Overall, I recommend this hotel, it was clean and the location is excellent. It is east side which keeps you away from the mid- town Broadway madness. My only criticism is that the people at the front desk were quite rude and acted as though they couldn't be bothered.

Perfection in the heart of the city

This is my second stay at Pod 51 and it will not be my last. The hotel decor makes you feel as if you are in a 5 star modern hotel with all amenities you will need. The room itself is clean and cozy. It provides you with that home away from home feel that will not let you down. A gem in the city. Price is right and you definitely get what you pay for and more. Highly recommended. I will always choose pod 51 when staying in Manhattan.

Loved it!

Pros: The location, cleanliness of the room, services (free walking tours, rooftop, garden).
Cons: The cleanliness of the shared bathrooms + adding a curfew "it was a bit loud on my floor after 12am".
Location: UN & subway are 2 blocks away.A famous bagel place is right around the corner. 15 minutes from the Rock center and 10min from Grand Central (walking)
It was what I needed for my short (two nights) trip, the location's great, the room's clean & had everything I needed "desk, safe, sink, comfy bed, hangers". I'd definitely recommend this place for anyone who's looking for a nice place to sleep in midtown Manhattan but not willing to spend much more time in the hotel room.

Fun Girl's Trip

This little pod/room was perfect for our stay in NYC. It was very cozy. Was a little surprised at the separate restroom facilities but they were always clean and I loved the spa showers!!

Clean, Spartan, and Reasonable

Pros: The TV is very high quality, everything in the room was thoughtfully placed and purposeful. Bed comfortable. Hygene very good!
Cons: I found the air conditioner too loud for such a small room. There was no night-light, which would have been an inexpensive improvement.
Location: it's just a few blocks to the E and 6 trains that can get you to JFK or into town. East side neighborhood restaurants and shops. Easy walk to 5th ave.
If you don't care about luxury, this is a very good choice of lodging. Rooms are about the size of a modest college dormitory room; there's no fake art on the walls, no fridge or coffee maker, everything is just big enough, thoughtfully placed, and everything is well cared for and ship shape. I was sure there would be a backlog waiting for the shared bathroom, but did not experience that in my 2 nights there. Be sure to bring bathrobe and flip-flops for your trips to the shared shower. Compared with all the options, this is a refreshing way to visit Manhattan.
