The room had no thermostat and room was too hot. The elevators were incredibly slow. We waited almost 15 minutes for an elevator in the morning and all three elevators were running. I will not stay here again.

Terrible, unsanitary experience from start to finish. The first room I checked into was disgusting — stained tub, mold on the window sills, and a strong musty odor. The manager offered an upgraded room, but it was just as bad, with a hair left in the tub. Completely unsanitary, and this place should be investigated by the Department of Health. After I left the hotel, they refused to refund me and told me to contact Expedia. That turned into another awful experience — 45 minutes on the phone only to be spoken to like a child. I will not be using Expedia ever again. Avoid this hotel at all costs.

Staff is great, renovation nice. Two HUGE problems: heat from steam radiators makes the room 80+ degrees and you have to keep a very rattling window A/C on to get comfortable temperature but you can’t sleep because of the noise!!! Pillows are horrible, small, uncomfortable, hard. There is no comfortable sleep at the Belvedere. Highly recommended that Hotels.com NOT serve them up till problems are fixed. Elevators are also a problem. Plan on an xtra 10 minutes, at least, and ride them up to get a spot on the way down.

There was an odd odor in the room. Almost a mildew odor, especially in the bathroom. The room was very cold, regardless of what temperature we set the thermostat to. There were no blankets in the room. We had to call and request they be sent and the blankets provided were quite surprisingly very inexpensive and so thin they barely qualified as blankets. The staff person delivering them was unfriendly and unapologetic about the absence of blankets in the room and gave us the impression that our request was bothersome. There was oddly only one wastepaper basket in the room. Check-in was below our expectations in several ways. Staff was not warm and welcoming; one staff person in particular was abrupt and rude. Staff seemed disorganized and unable to manage the number of individuals waiting to check in.

That sounds like a great review! To make it flow better while keeping that casual, excited tone, here are a few options, focusing on tightening the structure and making it punchier: Option 1: Emphasis on the Relief & Win I spent hours trying to find the perfect hotel in Lower Manhattan, and I was so nervous a bad one would totally ruin our trip. But I took the shot on The Belvedere, and holy cow, it was an absolute win! The rooms were large and spotless, the beds were super soft and comfy, and let me tell you, the water pressure, hot water, and shower head were all fantastic. The location was unbeatable, too: A safe, quiet street across from a school. You are 2.5 blocks from times sq, but you can't hear it. We slept with the windows open without issue. We also walked back late night/early morning without a concern. My child walked to 7-11 a few blocks away and I had no concerns. Only two blocks from the C and E train. Two bodegas right on the same block (seriously, go to Hells Kitchenette! Delicious and half the price for a breakfast sandwich on an incredible bagel). A block away from a ton of delicious, cheaper restaurants in Hell's Kitchen. My only suggestion/downside? The coffee was pretty bad. Honestly, if that's the worst thing that happens on a trip, I'll take it!

The first room they gave me had a heating system that didn’t work and it required three visits from engineers to determine it could not be fixed and had to be replaced. During all this the front desk were friendly enough to send up an extra blanket and a tiny portable heater, but there was no offer to give me a new room, let alone an upgrade or a refund for part of my stay—not even a drink or breakfast voucher for spending the night in a freezing cold room. When at last the engineer said he had to replace the whole unit and there would be a lot of noise and dust, so I asked for a new room, they gave me a room with an in-window unit that sounded like a jet taking off. This hotel is old and tired. And a nightdress left behind in the room switch disappeared immediately and was never handed in.
