This is an ancient mayan observatory, located in Cobá—one of the largest archaeological sites I've visited. It is believed that Cobá was a really important city for the Mayas, since it was a major crossroad between all the cities around the Yucatan Peninsula.
The best way to move around the archaeological site of Cobá is by renting a bicycle. Not only is it faster than walking the 2km from the entrance to the main pyramid, it is also really fun!
