"great value and location, but dont expect 5 star"
Just dont expect a lot and you will be satisfied. This is a value hotel at a good location next to central park on the upper west side. Free wifi that works very well. no breakfast. AC works great, room is roomy, but dated. Everything you expect for the price. so for what its worth its good. staff was great.

"A pleasant, no frills stay for a short trip"
I stayed in the bunk bed cabin, which is adequate for the no-frills traveler. It is about the size of a sleeper car on a train, just so you know that going in. The staff are awesome, and the location is nice and quiet (right along the Hudson River). Just keep in mind that the cabin bunk rooms are very small with a shared bathroom down the hall, so don't expect Trump Tower.

"Nice hotel/ few amenties"
Hotel was clean and comfortable, staff was friendly. Great location, about half a block from time square. If you're someone who needs coffee ASAP in the morning, you need to go next door to the cafe because the rooms have no coffee makers. And possibly bring a blow dryer- ours didn't work!

"Delightful experience!"
I guess the low evaluation of this hotel is due to its neighborhood which does not seem very safe. But if this is true then the whole Newark does not seem quite safe and I would suggest those who want to live in a safe area avoid the whole city of Newark. Yet to me, such neighborhood is especially interesting and attractive because I could feel a lot about America--its past and present, in Newark. The hotel is full of history, a bit old, but good enough to be worth its charge. The security guard/porter was extremely friendly and helpful. He helped us bring all our suitcases to the room, and opened our room when we got there. The room was spacious--we actually got two rooms connected, plus one bathroom, to accommodate three people, for just a little more than 60 dollars! The TV was pretty new and clear. Everything was good--I would say much better than a motel, though not as good as a high-end hotel. It was also very clean: no cockroaches, no mice, not as some people said. So I feel that the place is wronged. I see a lot of bad evaluation on websites, but I think it is a pretty good place to stay one or two nights.
