"Awesome. Disregard the negative reviews"
Not sure why the bad reviews the resort was awesome! I had a great time and would recommend the resort to anyone I know. There is a room for your budget a whether be the gardens units, presidential suites or the main building. I had the opportunity to stay in the vip and presidential units and they modern and very clean. The beach was private and very European! I enjoyed everything about this place. I'm sure there is something in of the restaurants for everyone . The staff is great I'm not very fluent in Spanish but, I do know a little and had no problem. The staff and management is very nice/friendly. The resort offers a lot of entertainment although, I decided to go into the colonial zone to enjoy the local nightlife. There is definitely something for everyone. I would recommend the property to everyone. I also put a few pics on Instagram #hamacasuites

"Nice Hotel in Safe Area"
I travel to Santo Domingo for work about 4 times a year. I always stay at the Sheraton. The staff is very accommodating and there's a good amount of them that speak English. The rooms are very clean and the immediate area is walkable at night. I've walked many times while the sun was down and nobody has ever bothered me. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a clean and safe hotel to stay at in the DR. There is even a small casino attached to the hotel that you do not have to walk on the street to get to if that is your thing.

"Great Service at average hotel"
The lobby and other public areas of this hotel are very nice! The staff is very welcoming and extremely attentive. However, the rooms/hallways are in need of an update/maintenance. The bathroom ceiling tiles were crumbling , the shower sprayed water everywhere , and the carpets need some repair. The television is from another century - but I didn't come to DR to watch TV so it wasn't that big of an issue for me! Other than those relatively minor annoyances, the room was clean, safe, and the bed was super comfortable!!! The hotel restaurant has two restaurants - a sports bar and a typical hotel buffet/sit down type restaurant along with a coffee/snack bar. I had the occasion to them all - and the food was average at best and WAY overpriced. i would recommend going outside the hotel for a much better meal for your money - The Adrian Tropical is within walking distance and had excellent food!! Although, the coffee bar was great for the first cafe con leche of the day!!! The pool area is beautiful.. The pool is great and you can purchase food/drinks poolside! They have quite a few "cabanas" that offer shade - as otherwise there isn't much! One thing to note when booking is - if you choose the "garden view" or least expensive room - it is another building - NOT the main tower. I don't recall that mentioned in the description. At check in, I was able to "upgrade" to main tower - at a cost of about $20 US per night. Also - the WIFI is free in only the public areas- not in the rooms! It seems that a hotel of this price would include wifi!! Overall a good place to stay for the money - I would go back!

"great place to stay in the Colonial Zone"
This is THE place to stay in the colonial zone. Pricey, but worth it. Great pool, very old building beautifully restored, great breakfast. Perfect location for walking to many (not all) of the important sites. They have a tour guide (Angel Tours) who is very, excellent for a full city tours (he is highly recommended).

    Water Sports and Sand

The Dominican Republic has become world renowned as a destination for sparking sand, shimmering water, and fantastic water sports. Santo Domingo is a mixture of city and seaside fun, offering more than just a beach town. Boca Chica is close, and it offers a mix of tourists and locals. It's crowded and has numerous bars nearby for exploring the nightlife; as the main beach area for the city, Boca Chica is about 20 minutes from downtown, and hotels near Herrera International Airport will put you just a short drive away. A little further east are Juan Dolio Guayacanes and Playa Esmeralda, both featuring lovely palm-lined stretches of sand.

    The Historic Capital

Built in 1502, Santo Domingo was the first Caribbean city laid out by European settlers. The colonial city is a UNESCO World Heritage site, with 116 blocks inside a walled area that seems almost transported through time. Catedral Primada de America was the first Christian church in the Western Hemisphere, and it is still well-maintained. Calle de Las Damas is a cobblestone street that dates back to 1502.

The Three Eyes National Park is another awe-inspiring attraction, and it's home to crystal-clear lagoons, caves, and beautiful vistas. The National Botanical Garden is a nice respite from the city when you'd like a natural break. Some of the best prices for cheap Santo Domingo hotels are in the northern part of town, too.

Travelocity can help you find great Santo Domingo beach hotels and plan your great adventure through the history, culture, and Caribbean shores of this enchanting city. It's a place of contrasts, from centuries-old avenues to upscale and bargain shopping, along with world-class nightlife.
