"This is the bargain of San Diego. On the outskirts of Old Town, the drive in is honestly a little daunting as it is surrounded by commercial and industry. Old Town itself is walking distance, the entrance is just across the street. Parking at this hotel is free, which is unusual and a blessing. The property itself shines; it is well-run and well-maintained. The staff is exceptional, and the maid service is swift and smiling. The furnishings are older as are the amenities -- it's a little like stepping back in time. The little continental breakfast is actually superb. No junk food, really, but honest-to-goodness real oatmeal, real orange juice, smooth coffee, a waffle maker, chocolate croissants (!?), boiled eggs and yogurt...I am picky about breakfast and this was outstanding. Interestingly, the kitchen staff could have been at a high-end restaurant on the oceanfront; everything was circumspectly managed and replaced, cleaned and appointed immediately. The pool outside looked lovely although we didn't get a chance to try it out. After we left I realized I had left an expensive electronic in the room. I called the front desk in a panic, who sent maid service right away to retrieve it for me. They held it at the front desk so I could pick it up--wow. This hotel is a pleasant surprise."

"San Diego is a dreamy city and Humphrey’s only adds to that. The landscaping is lush and beautiful and there are several outdoor third spaces (some with fire pits) for gathering with your friends/family outside of your room. The housekeeping is meticulous. The pool and hot tub area with the bar was a great place to end the day or spend the day. The only reason I didn’t give the amenities 5 stars was because the restaurant was a long walk from where our room was (so we never even visited it) and especially because the fitness room is so tiny that the few pieces of equipment in it feel crammed in there - not really a functional place to workout. On the other hand, the area would be nice for walks or jogs and we read that there were bikes available for guests to checkout. We never checked out the bikes, so I can’t verify that, but I anticipate we will stay at Humphrey’s again on future trips."
