"Nice modest hotel in the heart of Little Italy"
I stayed for one night only and was pleasantly surprised. The staff was very friendly and helpful with assisting me to get to some near-by places. There is a good quality continental breakfast included. The hotel is in a refurbished, older building and is clean and comfortable; a refrigerator and large screen TV is in the room. You cannot beat the price!

"Nice hotel, but needs an upgrade"
We had a nice enough stay at the Lafayette, but a few things were kind of out of date. The AC made a horrible clicking noise the whole time we were there and there's no bathroom fan. Also, the little hotel restaurant was really overpriced; we were charged $7 to sub toast for French toast and they only gave us one slice (two triangles). But the aesthetic is pleasing and is a good location.

"Perfect stay"
The entire staff was helpful and gracious from the valet to the front desk to the maid service. They had a pet bowl and and pet bed ready for my dog at check in. The bed was comfortable, the room was gorgeous with an excellent view. The hotel provided coffee in the morning in the cozy lobby and the location was perfect, right in the heart of the gaslamp district and very walkable to all the restaurants, bars and sites. My dog and I had a great time and will definitely return to this hotel.
