Very nice & friendly

Very good location, customer friendly staff. Good food, close to airport. Family orinted atmosphere. Would like to go back again next year. Only negative point was too hot but that was not their fault.

Wonderful hotel with incredible staff

Jr. suite was incredible. Whole hotel was very clean. Staff was amazing, especially servers at the Aqua bar, poolside and restaurants. Zen spa was wonderful. Staff was very helpful with tips and suggestions. Just wish once we said no to time share presentation they would have stopped pushing. Truly a wonderful 9 days in paradise.

No Cold Beer

Pros: The views are amazing! Cesar the waiter was wonderful and bartender Adalberto was great!
Cons: Get Cold beer. If you offer drinks have them in stock. It is not acceptable to be out of so many things!
Location: About a four dollar cab ride to downtown. Do NOT do the city and tequila tour unless you want to shop at expensive shops.
Overall good place to go for the price. The food was hit and miss. The main issue for me we the lack of cold beer. They offer nice beers and liquors but are always out. They didn't have any light beer on draft either. Management was not helpful. I felt bad for the waiters too because they did not get tips for bringing beer when there is none! If i was not a beer drinker i would give this hotel a higher rating. This hotel is not the best for children. It seemed to be mostly middle aged adults. It is not a party resort for sure. The hotel next door plays loud music though.

Nice hotel, close to the beach.

The property is quite nice and the majority of the staff is fantastic. There is a lot of pressure to attend the timeshare sales presentation. The food choices are limited and reservations are required for "special event" dinners - but there's no listing of when these dinners occur. Skip the all-inclusive and get tacos in town at Pepe's!

Wonderful hotel on the beach

Pros: Breakfast food, quality of hotel, friendliness of staff, proximity to beach.
Cons: The dinner options and quality need to be improved, there were only 5 or so selections to choose from and they were not that good. Again dinner only.
Location: Close to the marina, airport, and downtown. Within 10 minutes of a lot of things, shopping, other restaurants and pharmacy's.
This is a wonderful hotel with a great staff. We did all inclusive which covers meals, drinks and gratuity and the staff were just as friendly and not looking for anything extra. The rooms were up to date and clean, they cleaned your room twice a day and provided snacks and drinks in your room. The breakfast food and pool area food was great, the dinner options and quality could use some work. There were games to play and a small gym which was great. You are right on the beach for walking, swimming and jet ski or other activity rentals. Please note they will ask you when you get your welcome package to listen to an 1 1/2 hour time share presentation and for doing this they will give you free/discounted tours, spa treatments or other things you may want to do while on your trip. You do not have to listen to the presentation and can say no, but please note that if you do accept to listen to their presentation it WILL be a high pressure 1 on 1 sales pitch to get you to buy a timeshare. If you have not experienced this before please be aware that it can be quite overwhelming. You can still say no to buying a timeshare after the pitch and are entitled to whatever perks they promised you but they will not be happy you are saying no and will try and get someone else to sit down and convince you... Again if you are prepared for this its all good, but if not be aware so it doesn't ruin your vacation.

This hotel surprised me...

Pros: Free breakfast, Free Internet
I booked this for my sister's bachelorette party. I was surprised at all the amenities that were provided to us considering how much we paid. It was very nice, and clean. The staff was very courteous and willing to help. It was difficult to get drinks from time to time when we were at the pool, but overall it was a good experience. My one complaint is that the internet was touch and go most of the time. There's limited/no internet once you leave the building, we were using skype to meet up with our friends by the pool....

Good location. Very nice hotel

Pros: Close restaurants
Cons: Noisy
We only stayed here for one night but would have liked to try more of the facilities here. Check in was relatively easy once we figured out that my name had been transposed. We didn't purchase the all inclusive option so were ignored by the pool servers. Our very affordable room was right over the bar area so was somewhat noisy. Excellent view, though.

Best hotel in PV

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet, great staff very friendly
My wife and I just finished our 5-day stay at the Sunset Plaza for our 30th anniversary (August 18-22, 2012). We decided to stay at the Sunset after reading all the positive reviews on trip advisor, which by the way, we read extensively. We are very happy with our decision and our stay was excellente’. Because of our 30th anniversary there were things provided by the staff during our stay that were a surprise and a delight. It’s evident the truth was written in all the many previous reviews about the employees that were mentioned because we encountered these same dedicated workers and found superb hospitality. Javier, an exceptional gentleman, who is in charge of guest services, makes you feel at home from the moment you walk in to when you leave. Ivan, our butler, was very courteous and pleasant as well as all the staff in the lobby. We found that throughout the resort everyone had their English working well. We did not use room service once during our stay but I’m sure it would have been the best. As others have written, the place is a more modern hotel, decorated very nicely and immaculate in cleanliness inside and out. The hotel operations reminded me of an ant colony. All the workers are very busy scurrying about handling their daily tasks here and there, moving around with a purpose and intent, keeping the nest neat and orderly. Nothing out of place and everyone happy to do their part. We experienced only positive professional friendly service during our stay. Even the staff seemed happy to be working with one another. The hotel is very secure and we felt safe. They have security throughout the grounds and check room numbers as you come and go the property. The hotel is conveniently located between the airport, marina and malacon. It seems $8.00 dollar taxi rides take you anywhere. They will exchange pesos change at the lobby check in. There is an ATM just down the alley to the plaza next door. We never experienced the time-share people in the lobby. We pretty much just stayed away. It wasn’t a big deal. Rooms: The tower of rooms offer unique views as your room goes from one side to the other. You can see the beachfront from your balcony or the city from your room door hallway. If you open both doors you get a nice breeze through the room. Of course, the higher in the tower the better the view and probably better the breeze. OBSERVATION- I need to point out something no one has mentioned and that is the rooms have an odd numbering system and start at ??09 to ??17 on each floor. Why, I don’t know, but we were on the 12th floor in 1209, which is the farthest from what other reviewers complain about the noisy hotel next door. I suppose if you are in room 1217 side (closet to that hotel) you would be right above it. That said, we did not encounter any major problems with the noise of which is actually music and a DJ on a microphone. A couple times a day we would hear it but simply closing our balcony door muffled it fine. Nor did it bother us too much out by the pool. But I would suggest getting a room on any floor starting with room ??09 or far away from the end of the ??17 side. ( I hope that all made sense). The air conditioning works great but at night we chose to leave our balcony door open with the lighter shades drawn and listen to the waves. Neither of us experienced any mosquito or bug bites during our stay. In the morning when it got a bit more humid we then closed the door and turned back on the air. The balcony door has some sort of sensor that shuts off the air conditioning when it’s open. So don’t leave your balcony door ajar all day if you expect to come back to a cooled room. The rooms were very clean and all the amenities you would need except for maybe 2 things. They only provide 1 roll of TP, which I don’t understand, so you have to ask for more in between room service. There is no ice machine but your butler service is happy to bring some to you if need be. Didn’t watch much TV but there are mostly Spanish stations but did find channel 5 Los Angeles and 2 New York stations as well as some sports stations. There is a DVD player as well. The single rooms (not suites) do not have a coffee maker but the coffee is right outside the lobby door every morning. There is good water pressure and never lacked hot water. Listen carefully to your butler when they explain “room service” procedures. I won’t go into it here. There is a safe in the closet we used every day. Ivan, our butler, brought us a small fridge with a few sodas and water. They replace what you use daily as well as the 2 bottles of water in the bathroom. I put the water bottles in the fridge to keep cold. Although we were all inclusive they provide 2 cans of beer at a time in the room. I went next door to the plaza and got a 6 pack as well. The maid service was great and thorough. Use your “do not disturb” sign if you want your privacy. They were always right on our room when we left. They will also turn down your beds at night and leave you some chocolate. Another reason for the “do not disturb” sign if you hit the room early. The food: Everyone has different tastes and this has got to be the biggest difference in everyone’s reviews. We are laid back and fairly easy to please food wise and thought overall the food was great. My only complaint would be that the portions were sometimes too small but being all-inclusive we could order whatever. We ate every meal at the Sunset during our stay. The Mirador, which is the main food and bar area by the pool, is where we ate all the time. We only ate at the Italian restaurant once and really because we had too as the Mirador was closed one evening although we were going to eat there at least once. It was very good but were not the fancy shmancy type eaters. They could use some music in this restaurant though as you could hear a pin drop. At the Mirador, the menus change daily or alternate and we were happy with everything we ate. I loved the short rib tacos and the fish veracruz on the Mexican menu. Breakfast was very good and had many options. Again the scrambled eggs portion was a bit small so I ordered double each time and it was brought without question. They even added bacon that was not on the menu. I will admit, that on a 5-day stay it was ample enough, but perhaps with a 1-week stay or longer it may get a bit redundant. But everything was cooked well and plates were arranged with creativity. If you are eating most of your meals at the hotel go all inclusive. You get more and can order whenever - however. If you’re a heavier drinker it will pay for itself. They have a deli restaurant but we did not eat there. I cannot vouch for the issues associated with what people complain about all-inclusive liquor brand choices. I drink mostly beer. My wife loved the Margaritas and I had a few mixed drinks that were good. If they used a cheaper brand because we were all-inclusive, I did not see or taste it. Pool service: The pool is awesome and refreshing. The first day I thought it was too warm but was cooler after that day. We had awesome pool service with Eduardo serving and Luis behind the bar. Our glasses were never empty. We moved around a bit here and there at the main pool and also at the adult pool but Eduardo always found us. We were here during the rainy season so the place was fairly empty so a lounge was never a problem but I don’t think it is ever really a problem here as it is not a giant hotel. I especially like the lounges on the swim step that sit in the water – very nice! We only went down to the beach once. The water was warm and fairly clean as was the beach. Some days the waves were pounding and others very mellow. The lounges and beds on the beach are roped off from the vendors but they are really only feet away but once you say no they leave you alone and not very pushy at all. This a relaxing pool with softer music and not really any activities at least while we were there. We wanted to relax and enjoy each others company and we got just that. There is a separate adult pool as well. The sit down in the water bar was great too. If you want crazy partying with loud music atmosphere this is not the place for you. However, it would be a great addition if they had some entertainment here and there, like a guy on a guitar singing especially at night around the bar. There really is no nightlife at the Sunset. Tipping: Other reviews suggest always use pesos. Although we did for the most part, we found the mighty American dollar is appreciated very much so. If you’re the conservative money type than you’ll want to take advantage of the exchange rate. But for minor tipping it works great. After all they turn it in for more pesos. Again we were all-inclusive but took smaller change with us to the pool. In my opinion, if you’re there for multiple days you’re better off to get acquainted with the staff right away with a good tip and introduction as I did and get the comfortability going. Since you will be encountering these same people everyday you might as well make friends fast. It makes for a friendlier stay and service more attentive. We tipped at all meals as well. These people work hard and appreciate you being there. So if you want your glasses kept filled a good tip at the start works wonders. (including the bar tender)
