The Barcelo' was a run down All Inclusive. Look hard when viewing the beach area. There is a marginal one at best. It is a cove and marina combined. Yes you are swimming with a roped off area next to boat motors. The guests that entered the water and came to shore all suffered bug bites, similar to swimmers itch. Room had limited towel service. Our hotel floor #3 had the fire alarms go off three nights in a row. We were told multiple times they were testing, (me-retired firefighter) no testing is done at 10pm at night especially in a hotel. The final night we insisted a manager come with maintenance to check it out. Conclusion NO working alarm system, it was taped to the wall. If a true fire were to happen no one even knew the alarms were even going off to alert a fire department. Food and drinks only okay. If you do not upgrade to premium room package you have limited reservation times for dinner. Also you are only allowed 3 restaurant reservations for a week vacation. The rest of the meals are done in the buffet. Drinks watered down, even morning juices. Again only upgraded room got you better alcohol. Only positive the staff was very friendly. If you are looking for a destination beach vacation this will be a very disappointing unsafe choice for all Inclusive.

The location is the highlight of our stay. It is beachfront but I think this is the only hotel that have direct access to this beach so it wasn't crowded and it feels exclusive but it was not. The room was great but it wasn't spotless. Minibar wasn't restocked daily as promised but service was quick when we called. Restaurant service was hit and miss. They mentioned on the website that tips are included but service will improve if you tip extra. Food was okay but lots of selectiona. Overall, we will be back for the price we paid because of its location.

As an avid traveler of the area and knowing over 30 hotels in the area, my rating for Barcelo is a 2/5. Here is a breakdown: Food (Quality/availability) 1/5 (Due to the common food poising occurrences and cheap/poor selection) , Amenities (Included) 3/5 (Standard, some areas seemed to be left to die), Room (Condition, Placement, Cleanliness) 2/5. Staff Reception/concierge 1/5. Staff waiters and others 4/5, Management 5/5
Rooms seemed to be poorly patched and in desperate need of upgrading.
A lot of bugs in the rooms, our group - almost everyone had bug bites from staying in the rooms
These little bugs seemed to be in a lot of the areas in the room.

Food was biggest reason it sucked. Buffet was awful. Couldn’t eat at the pool. Also got norovirus and felt public bathrooms weren’t super clean. Also the kids pool area wasn’t ideal, fountain not working and Swim up bar there, not in adult pool, and wish there was a hot tub for kids. But I will say the best part about the resort was the kids club. It was AWESOME. That was a game changer cause kids had a lot of fun there and freed up kid free time. That’s only reason why I’m giving it a three. Also, we got premium but didn’t feel the perks outweighed the cost. Our friends that didn’t get premium got upgraded to a 2 bdrm free of charge when they checked in and that was one main reason we got the premium so was kind of pointless. Just not overly impressed. Mainly cause food options were not good and buffet food was horrible.

Nice location on beach-great views. Unfortunately we all got SICK!!! Lovely setting, beautiful grounds, nice staff, kids loved activities at pools. iguanas swim in the pool! Staff at buffet work hard, especially omelette lady-she was great-always smiled!Our room on 9th floor had great views-the bathroom needs a total Renovation! high quality bedding.Only one elevator working in Tower 1.Had a great massage with Judy. Food is not great here.The food in the specialty restaurants was not good. Very disappointing! We would not pay extra for premium as we feel there is really no benefit.

If you’re planning to book this resort, please contact a travel agent or the hotel directly, as their “all-inclusive” plan comes with many conditions. I asked for extra bottled water and was only given two bottles. They will only top up, not provide freely like other all-inclusive resorts. The same applies to the minibar service — it wasn’t stocked, and when I called for service, I was told by housekeeping that it had been restocked, which was not true. When I ordered room service and asked to charge it to my room, I was told it wasn’t possible. The front desk should have taken my credit card details at check-in, but they didn’t. I was asked to go down to provide my credit card information instead, as they didn’t accept cash or card payment directly for room service. This resort really nickel-and-dimes guests, even for basic supplies such as bottled water. I had two rooms and paid a good amount of money, but I would not recommend this resort. The buffet food was bland and lacked flavor. They were slow to refill items, and the coffee machines didn’t use real milk for cappuccinos. During my four-night stay, the in-room coffee supplies were never restocked. Lastly, I raised my concerns with the staff and was told someone would follow up, but no one ever did. Overall, I would not stay here again and do not recommend this resort. There are much better options available.

I gave 4 stars because the following. My door lock broke, fell off from the inside. Instead of calling management, I called a friend whose husband brought work tools. It was easier that way and the door was repaired immediately. Not that hotel wouldn't do the same, my friends - who I met at the Barcelo were more than happy to help. Secondly, upon arrival, I used the lobby way bathroom and the toilet was a mess. Someone had vomited on the toilet and floor. If someone not as forgiving as myself stumbled upon the mess, it might have stained the experience for them. My room was dreamy! The hotel was dreamy, staff and management were all so lovely and kind that the Barcelo became my home. I felt well cared for and enjoyed the amenities to the fullest! The food was great, I mainly stuck to Mexican food at the buffet which was very good. One night, I tried the restaurant on the property - Don Quixote which prepared the tastiest rack of lamb! Needless to say, the piano player was on point, he played so beautifully. The sushi restaurant I visited on the property was delicioso! The Barcelo is truly a magical place. The area of its location is one of pure beauty where the mountains meet the sea. I intend to return next year.
