We have stayed at the Rodeway Inn Palm Springs Downtown (a/k/a the Royal Sun) 3 or 4 times over past 20 years and felt it wa a good value for the price. On this visit we had several issues: 1) Every room on every floor had huge boxes stacked in front awaiting replacement of furniture. Piles of old furniture and empty cartons were in the parking area taking up significant parking spots on a busy weekend. 1st morning a huge box was blocking the walkway. We had to walk on it to get out. We were not informed prior to staying. 2) The rooms do not have a sink & vanity in the bathroom. you must stand at a sink alcove in the main room. 2) Automatic lights turn on when you enter the room, however, there is a sensor which turns on those lights when someone in the room moves around. I asked the front desk and they did not know how to disable it. I had to unscrew the bulbs to keep from turning the lights on inappropriately. 3) There is no light near the ice machines near the elevator except on the ground floor (which was out of order). Thus you can't see a special instruction to push a small black button before pushing down the dispensing chute. When I called the front desk to ask about ice at 8pm there was no answer, twice. 4) The entire facility is run-down. And we found ants in the bed. I feel strongly enough that these were avoidable issues (we never had a complaint before) that a refund of some kind is in order.

Great Stay

We recently stayed at the Rodeway Inn and were very pleased. The staff was friendly and accommodating and the room was clean and comfortable. Pool and whirlpool were also very well maintained. Breakfast options are minimal, but include cereal , fruit, waffles, juice and coffee which is all we really needed to start the day. The location is close to downtown and the airport which was very handy. We will definitely plan another stay in the furlture and would definitely recommend this Hotel to others traveling to the Palm Springs area.

A bit dated.

Pros: The breakfast was good but the location for it was too small.
Cons: Some of the male staff at the counter looked glum and were a bit abrupt.
Location: Good location and the pickup location for the free Buzz bus service is very close to the hotel.
It was fairly clean but the hot water tap in the bathtub was dripping 24-7 for 3 days. After we told the staff about it 3 times it finally got fixed. The telephone cord kept falling out of the phone, even after the cord was replaced. Some of the towels looked like they had been used for several years as they were pretty thin.

Good location. On main road.

Close to airport, close to all main areas of town

Pros: Had coffee pot, small fridge, and microwave in room.
Cons: Tiles were loose in bathroom floor.
Convenient location to airport and downtown area. Clean room, cleaning staff was nice.

Nice stay

Pros: heated pool, room was close to pool for kids, clean rooms
Cons: More fresh fruit at continental breakfast.
Location: Hotel is close to downtown area with lots of restraunts.
Very pleased with stay, we were upgraded to pool side room upon request at arrival. Pool was nice and warm, my kids enjoyed swimming. Continental breakfast was ok, some variety. Would be nice with more fruit. Rooms were nice and clean. Bed was good in comfort, just use to a softer bed at home. Close to downtown area. Would recommend the hotel to others.

Cheap if you can't do better.

I had stayed here back in February and it was tolerable. I needed an inexpensive place to stay again this month August 2015. We picked the hottest month To travel out to Palm Springs but we knew our room would at least be right near the pool and also there would be a reasonably okay continental breakfast. Last trip the front desk person upgraded us to a better room because he said there was empty rooms. Also note I had booked through Travelocity. This time around the front desk person said that they only had 20% of the rooms with good handicapped access booked but could not offer an upgrade because I booked through Travelocity. So despite the available rooms and need for handicapped access the clerk refused to get us into another room. We were put into the top floor furthest from the elevator and breakfast and parking. Plus the ice machines were all out of order and the "breakfast" was basically toast and a waffle maker. I won't be staying again. I wasn't expecting anything great for the price but still didn't get the service or amenities we paid for.

GREAT HOTEL!!!

Location: The hotel is within 30mins from most things you will need to get to.
I was in California visiting my kids and stayed at the hotel for 5 days. When I got there the guy at the front desk was very nice and gave me all information about the hotel (free breakfast location, WiFi credentials etc). The room was great for me and my boys. the only problem i really had was the plug to keep the water in the tub didn't work. it was a big deal to my son who hates taking showers but he survived. The other hotel staff was very helpful. Will definitely be looking to stay at the hotel when I'm back in town.
