8/10 Good

The location was fantastic, the bed was comfortable, and the historic charm was evident. There are several diners nearby and a subway station around the corner. However, there was no heat, no hot water (a known and persistent issue - wishing I had actually read the reviews, not just looked at the stars), no washcloths, only two pillows on a king, and the kitchen had few utensils/dishes, no coffee - none of the small amenities I've come to expect from a VRBO. The pictures make it clear that the kitchen is limited - which was fine, but it was totally unusable, given the lack of dishes, utensils and basics. We received conflicting access codes for the building in different emails, and eventually, someone who was leaving had to let us in. Then, when we got upstairs, it took 10 minutes trying the lock to get into the room. It was shouting in a different language and was completely unreliable. We never knew whether we would be able to get back into the room when we left. We didn't reach out to the host about the lock issue because we had a very full 48-hr itinerary and weren't able to wait around for maintenance and didn't feel comfortable leaving our belongings there if they were to come while we were out. So, I can't speak to whether they would have done anything about it.It was a rainy, chilly couple of days in NYC and for what we paid, we were sorry that we couldn't even go back to the room to get warm. Just cold, cold, cold.
