Fine hotel but no different than Springhill

Pros: View and comfy beds.
Cons: Added value of Vacation Club hotel. If can't make rooms more spacious, make the experience more special for guests. Would be especially cool at Xmas.
This hotel was adequate but given you pay a premium for Vacation Club, I was hoping for a little more (spacious rooms, activities, service, etc.). Others staying seemed to agree - it's a fine hotel with a great location and amazing city views out the window but I stayed at the Springhill next door and can honestly say that otherwise there was no difference between that hotel and the Vacation Club.

My family of four had a great time. The hotel staff was wonderful, and the hotel is very, very nice. The roof top bar is great. The location is awesome. The room was a little tight for 4 people, but the view of the Empire state building made up for it. My sister-in law and her husband also stayed at the Strand. They loved it as well. They had a king size room and felt the space was more than adequate.

Classy hotel in midtown

Very nice classy decor, accommodated a toddler, spacious room, nice restaurant and bar area, very nice staff, brought me a bottle of wine as a hello gift but I couldn't travel with it so had to leave it plus I'm pregnant so couldn't drink it but I was impressed they gave it to me.

Excellent location. Safe and very boutique.

Pros: EVERYTHING. The Staff, Chef Carlos, the beds (so comfy)
Cons: nothing
Location: Excellent location Mid town. Near Time Square, Macy's, Avenue of the Americas, 5th Ave Lots of good eateries.
This was a 21st birthday celebration for my daughter. There were six girls ready to hit the town. The staff was excellent, very informative and ready to serve. Greg at the bell service was most helpful and gave us lots of tips on restaurants, attractions and must do's. I was most impressed with the restaurant in the hotel. Chef Carlos is the BEST ! I will highly recommend this hotel. Excellent in all areas. Looking forward to coming back soon Paty Espinoza, Laguna Niguel CA

Great hotel and Midtown location

Pros: Strand staff are very friendly and helpful. Room clean and comfy. Wifi included.
Cons: shower drain slow ; though maintanence staff arrived quickly to clear this.
Stayed in a double queen bed room with 2 adults and a teen. Perfect Midtown Manhattan location for walking to theatres, and conveniently close to subway stations for accessing the rest of NYC.

Great Hotel Experience

Pros: The staff were outstanding: friendly, helpful, thoughtful, and professional. They made it special for us.
Cons: The breakfast service at in-house cafe was tasty, but slow. Perhaps just an off morning.
Location: We arrived on Amtrak at Penn Station and simply walked the few blocks to The Strand dragging roller bag - Easier than expected.
I was attracted by price and location unaware that The Strand would become such a wonderful part of our NYC visit for our 45th anniversary. Wife and I were courteously greeted and welcomed at check-in by friendly staff. Our room overlooked 37th street: we enjoyed watching the traffic/pedestrian show below, and looking up to see Empire State Building a few blocks away.

A real gem in midtown!

This fabulous boutique hotel in Midtown's Garment District was our home away from home for five days last week. Can't say enough good things about it but the facility, staff and location were all amazing. If you're looking for a place to stay in NYC - you should check them out!

Will not book again

Pros: Free Internet
The hotel was decent, I wouldn't call it a 4 star by any means but it was functional and clean, only two complaints about the room would be that the bed was lumpy and the shower had a shower curtain instead of glass doors like many hotels now do. Especially the four star hotels. In terms of service it was from one extreme to the other, our second day we mentioned to the front desk that our bathroom sink was clogged, when we returned an hour later, problem solved. The negative came during checkout, I had taken night time cold medicine the night before and I wound up oversleeping and running a little late. Check out time was at noon and I am not exaggerating when I say that a staff member was literally pounding at the door informing me it was past checkout (mind you it was 12:04pm) I called the front desk and asked if I could have a 30 min late checkout bc of my situation and was told no, I could have until 12:15. Gee thanks for the extra 10 minutes. With literally thousands of hotels to choose from in NYC, I wouldn't waste my time coming back to this one. Sorry.

The staff was attentive and location close to Theater District.

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet
We were greeted by the hotel staff every time we passed the front desk. The staff helped us with our venue selections and transportation in NYC . The rooftop bar has a spectacular view of the Empire State Building to the south. We had a cozy dinner in the hotel's Bistro Restaurant, that included a nice selection of fresh bread. The hotel is away from the crowds at Times Square, but is in walking distance to Times Square and the Theater District.

Good, clean, nice place to stay but bed was terrible

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
Cons: hard bed
The hotel was worth the money. Small room but nice; who is going to stay in their hotel room much when you're visiting NYC! The bed was terrible, like sleeping on the floor. Too tired to care from all the walking but would have appreciated a softer bed for my aching muscles. Roof top bar was awesome. Drinks cost twice as much but have a double shot, so that's ok. Overall, great staff, clean and worth the money.
