Loved them! They are so friendly! We left another hotel and booked this through Travelocity immediately so the reservation wasn't updated on their computer yet but we had tickets to the game and in a hurry so they told us not to worry that they would get us checked in when we got back and took our luggage for hold so we could make it to the game on time. They gave us a free breakfast card. The room was very nice. The AC worked great! The hotel was a block from the subway which was great! The bellhop (luggage) was super friendly. I was so happy that we changed hotels. The location was next to the natural history museum. Central Park was was right there & so many shops & places to eat. I am very happy and will use them again.

Great location

The Excelsior is in an older building. The elevators are old, lack ventilation, and can smell funky. The room was nice. The view from the room was excellent. The water in the shower was problematic. First night there was not enough water pressure to activate the shower. A couple nights later the water wouldn't warm up. The staff was helpful in arranging transportation to and from the airport. The front desk folks were also very accommodating. The location is superb. I would go back there again for the location. Very close to museums, shopping, restaurants and the subway.

Good location; great facilities.

Slightly chilly staff at the front desk -- and they let you struggle to get into the front doors with your luggage. No one really leaps to assist; took some warming up. Hotel immaculate and lovely, nice room, comfy bed, beautiful bathroom old school. USA Today delivered to your door in the morning. Excellent housekeeping staff. All good on that front. Downside: no coffee maker or refrigerator in room. They gave me a hot pot for the room (and I had my own coffee packets and tea that I travel with anyway) and halfway into my stay they delivered a refrigerator to my room. Breakfast place on second floor but they don't let you sit there if you only order a coffee, though the place was empty. Only take away coffee. Also have to pay a daily fee for use of WiFi in your room, though it is free in the lobby. A loud boisterous bar in the lobby with a clientele from who knows where. All this is annoying and unfriendly. Not a smile or kind gesture -- you really have to fight for your right to have a pleasant stay. And I am a New Yorker. I was there for eight days for work, and all I wanted was a coffee and yogurt and fruit for breakfast before I left the hotel. This only became possible once I was given the hot pot and the fridge. Otherwise you have to go out and about on the street and spend for your breakfast. Anyway, in the end, it was OK, because I figured out the system. But don't expect warmth.

Nice hotel and convenient

We stayed at hotel over Labor Day weekend. We took train to NY and got there early in the am. Surprising they had room ready and we were able to check in by 10am. It was great because we just wanted to drop our bags, then head out for our adventures of the day. Hotel location was perfect with subway station about half block away, so was Central Park. Sunday morning had nice surprise of a farmers market to explore and get some fresh fruit too.

Great location

Stayed at the Excelsior for 2 nights for my birthday weekend. It is conveniently located near Central Park and the Natural History museum with 2 close subway stops. The check in was very quick and the doorman was extremely helpful in finding us a place to park our car. The room was a very good size by NYC standards and the bathroom accommodated both my husband and myself as we hurried to get ready for all of our NYC adventures. The room was a tad noisy the first night, but the AC unit muffled it and we slept beautifully. There is a restaurant below that we didn't try but was always busy. There are so many restaurants nearby we had a hard time choosing! I would definitely recommend this hotel to others especially if you want to explore the Upper West Side and Central Park.

Nice hotel, close to the Natural History Museum

Very nice stay for my family of 4 - 2 kids, 2 adults. We had a suite that was clean, bed with no bedbugs and a working air conditioner. The rooms were clean enough, there were no roaches and it was relatively quiet!

Nice hotel, good location.

More expensive but affordable. A fair sized, clean room with a vintage New York vibe, cool deco lobby. Quiet on upper floors, warm in winter. Near Central Park, restaurants, museums, subway and bus. Staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel food is pricey, the nearby eateries are good. Good family hotel, we'd stay here again.

Great location!

We loved staying on the Upper West Side in Manhattan, so close to Central Park, convenient subway lines.  The neighborhood is more residential, yet bustling.  The Excelsior was an ideal base for our wonderful exploration of Manhattan!
