"A taste of Japan "
The hotel is plain on the outside and sublime on the inside. The public areas are well appointed and serve their purposes well. The rooms are charming. The Japanese accents carry the flavor of Japan and are designed for comfort. The Japanese tubs and shower in the bathroom are also appreciated when staying in the area. The staff are generous and kind. The spa is a wonderful treat and the movie theater make the combination a unique and memorable experience.i love the location. You get the convenience without the massive tourist crowds. It is a neighborhood of families and friends.

"A best western dressed up in anime"
Imagine a best western with anime inspired decor. The rooms are comfy enough and conveniently located near Japantown. Our room was clean and the service was sufficient. The gym is tiny and only has three pieces of equipment. I would stay here again do to its affordability and location.

The Opal San Francisco - San Francisco Hotels

The Opal San Francisco

1050 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco - Map
"Well-located older hotel"
The Opal has a great location, at the intersection of Geary and Van Ness. there are many restaurants and shops nearby, and it is on major bus routes. It is a short walk to Union Square and to Civic Center Plaza, and a loner hike to Ft. Mason and Fisherman's Wharf. Our room was fine, although another chair would have been helpful. The hotel has a helpful staff, and the lobby is clean and comfortable. There is a very nice free breakfast offered.

Nob Hill Hotel

"Wonderful value."
We loved our stay at Nob Hill Hotel. Clean, unique, with old world charm like antique fixtures and spiral staircase with wooden beams. Staff was friendly and helpful. For the price I expected more shabby- broken lightcase or wobbly bed- but everything was just right. The room was small, but we didn't mind, because the experience was lovely.

"Nice hotel, in the heart of the city."
This is a very nice hotel, close to the cities main attractions. It was a short drive to Fisherman's Wharf and the Golden Gate, but within walking distance to China Town and Nobb Hill and some great restaurants. Parking was a bit expensive and the room was small, but the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom very nice. The room was clean and the staff was very helpful.

"Central San Francisco"
Wonderful location! Everything you need is within walking distance. Hotel was clean, quiet and nicely furnished. Bed was super comfortable. Yes, it's an older hotel but it has character and charm. It's a little hike from the BART but cabs are plentiful, buses run regular and the walk is only a half mile. Excellent restaurants and a few triple D joints are right around the corner. I had an excellent time!

"Nice hotel with some of the best staff ever"
The hotel was walking distance to everything we needed to do for our stay. It was a perfect distance walk to the Nike Women's Half starting line in Union Square. The staff at Hotel Carlton are incredible - from before checking in to even after. They were warm, accommodating and funny!

Hotel Vertigo

"Definitely a good value for SF Downtown"
I stayed at the HV for 4 nights while attending a conference. I managed to walk to the convention center & back (about a 15 min brisk walk each way) so no complaints there! The room was clean, very quiet, spacious, equipped with a refrigerator, wide screen TV (no HBO or pay TV!) & decent/new bathroom fixtures/bath robes. Free internet worked well but my room had almost no cell phone reception (if you have Verizon you should be OK!) as it was located at the back of the building facing taller adjacent structures. Various eateries including one of my favorites (Le Colonial) are withing a few blocks of the hotel. The central air system is antiquated & does not have a thermostat (only an ON or OFF setting!!).

"Clean, nice area"
This is a great priced hotel in a convenient location, we walked to the harbor, Chinatown, Lombard street. City bus runs right in front of hotel to go downtown or to connect to the BART train system, spacious room that was very clean, it's more like a motel, but you can't beat the price for frisco, and had a large fridge and microwave for our lunch/dinner leftovers. nice front desk employees. One tip, we used groupon San francisco to save big on dining out/coffee shops/bike rentals/tours of all kinds( saved us a bunch on things we were going to do anyway)
