Older, classic hotel on Union Square

Convenient parking at a garage around the corner on Sutter. Rooms are very small, but it has a minifridge and a large closet. We learned that you could earn a $7 credit toward a meal at the hotel restaurant each morning you skipped housekeeping services. So, we chose to do so on three occasions during our 5-night stay. We had a breakfast meal at the restaurant. When I went to checkout, the desk clerk did NOT ask me if we enjoyed our stay; she said I was supposed to have gotten a gift card at the front desk each time we skipped housekeeping, and then redeemed the gift cards at the restaurant because they are "separate from the hotel." And then she said, "as a matter of fact, my records don't show that you skipped any mornings of housekeeping, so I can't credit you for the $21." I assured her that we did not have housekeeping on three different mornings and that the gift card arrangements were never explained to us, and that there is no way that a guest would know that the "hotel and the restaurant were 'separate' " (evidently they are connected enough to grant cash credit of some type!). The desk clerk grumbled about how difficult this would be and how she would have a hard time explaining this to her manager. This reaction was shocking. We stayed at this hotel for five nights and this was a measly $21 credit! She shouldn't have suggested that I was lying and she should have apologized for the errors on their part. Instead she was rude and dismissive.

Nice hotel in great location

Pros: Great location and the service was great.
Cons: We stayed in February and needed to keep the window open to keep the room from getting any hotter. I can't imagine what it might be like in summer.
Location: Right on Nob Hill. A great place for shopping and San Francisco experiences such as cable cars and fantastic restaurants.
The hotel was in a nice spot within San Francisco, close to many shops and a ton of restaurants. The cable car goes write past the hotel with a stop just about two doors down. Rory was quite entertaining as the bartender and the people at the front desk were very helpful. We only ate at the restaurant once, but the service was so much better than when we ate breakfast elsewhere.

Great location, helpful staff

Pros: Clean, great location, friendly staff
Cons: Add air conditioning
Location: Trolley, BART, and MUNI bus stops, as well as tons of shopping and restaurants, all within a few blocks.
This hotel is close to everything. It is a charming, older building with perfectly clean rooms. Although the bathroom is tiny, there is a deep bathtub and complimentary bath salts so you can soak away any aches from hiking the streets of San Francisco. (Note: The rooms are too small to comfortably fit more than two people.) Comfy beds and pillows! The front desk staff was super friendly and helpful, from getting us on the correct MUNI bus to holding our bags after check-out for our late-evening flight. Fresh cookies, apples and water are available in the lobby throughout the day. Loved it! Absolutely would stay here again.

Convenience with few hiccups

Great location on union square, easy walk to Chinatown. Right on the Powell cable car line, 2 muni or BART stops to Embarcadero and the ferry bldg. but as with any city especially when you are in the heart of it, it is not quiet. My room was in the back of the hotel so I hear the loud humming from the other buildings, emergency vehicles at night, cars and construction noise. Rooms are clean but dated, tight with two people and luggages. I think they should divide rooms, some with tubs and others with just shower stalls. It is a climb into the tub so I am not sure how people with disabilities or if one has limited range of motion would be able to climb in. Sheets and towels are clean, so is the toilet (flushes loud but at least it's all down the drain). I love that they offer different flavored waters daily by the lobby along with cookies and coffee, it's a very nice touch after walking up those San Fran hills. Reception staff quite helpful, I arrived early and they gladly stored my luggages until the room is ready. I saw they had a concierge kiosk available, did not need to use it but good to know they have one. Overheard a guest asking bell captain about a pharmacy and she was directed to a store two doors down that did have a pharmacy, helpful. Overall, pleasant stay and the hiccups were too small to even notice. Would most likely stay here again if needed.

Perfect Location and Rooms

Hop on the Cable Car right in front of Hotel and take a 20min ride to Fisherman's Wharf. Walk across the street to Union Square. Shop til you drop with high end stores surrounding The Chancellor. Amazing foodie choices within walking distance as well as easy eats, fast food. Get a room with a city view and hear the street musicians into the night. Or, ask for a quiet room if needed. Raise your windows for a/c and the ceiling fan is wonderful. The room has plenty of plugs for your electronic gadgets, lots of light, great flat screen tv, and the bed is heavenly. If five pillows aren't enough, order more from their special 'pillow talk' menu free of charge with choices such as snore no more, body pillow, magnetic soothing and many more. Take a soak in the big, deep tub with a signature rubber ducky provided along with soothing bath salts and lovely green tea extract soaps. Our room had a fridge, safe, portable heater and even an umbrella in the closet for rainy days. If you're looking for a wonderful location with wonderful, special touches and a great rest for your tired legs after all the SFO hills...this is the place at a price that is affordable and competitive. Oh, and did I mention the cookies, fruit, popcorn, freshly flavored ice water and coffee in the lobby daily? Parking is steep at $32 a night. But, it's a big city, parking is scarce and the garage is maintained and manned 24hrs with in/out privileges or you can valet for $45. Lovely Anniversary Stay...LOVELY HOTEL!
