    Jamaica Hotel Travel Guide

With emerald waters lapping at sugar-sand beaches that quickly run up into lush, mountainous jungles, it's no wonder that Jamaica has earned the nickname "the Land of Wood and Water." Though most travelers to Jamaica resorts come with surf, suntan lotion, and mixed drinks on their minds, there's so much more to this Caribbean nation. It's an island packed with opportunities for extreme adventurers and families alike, so grab a room at one of the hotels in Jamaica before embarking on the tropical expedition of a lifetime!

    Visiting Jamaica

Jamaica is comprised of three distinct counties, and Cornwall County is the place to go if you want a little historical fun with your sun. The Beach Boys may have immortalized Montego Bay, but few remember that this so-called "tourist capital of Jamaica" is where Christopher Columbus once landed. The Jamaica National Heritage Trust named Falmouth a National Heritage Site, and history buffs will love taking a walking tour among the 19th-century Georgian-era architecture. Hotels in Negril, a nearby beachfront town, are perched on the island's westerly edge, blending miles of gorgeous sand with killer sunsets.

Central Middlesex County offers exotic outdoor activities around the hamlet of Ocho Rios, including swimming with dolphins, speeding down zip-lines, and rafting or inner tubing on the White River. Indulgence is the name of the game in Surrey County, on Jamaica's east end. Enjoy local shopping and visit the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston, or learn about the island's piratical past at Port Royal while planning a snorkeling escape at pristine Lime Cay.

"Fantastic Honeymoon I'll Always Remember! "
First time in Jamaica and I had high expectations, as it was our honeymoon. And man, did the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall blow them away! It was an amazing property and lived up to the "grand" part of its name, very elegant and clean throughout. The restaurants and food were excellent (the Japanese hibachi) being our favorite! The staff was friendly and polite and as helpful as I have ever seen. The views of the beach and ocean from the pool deck and rooms were amazing. I also liked how they had free activities such as snorkeling and kayaking available.

"Beautiful spot but has service/food issues"
First the pros: The resort is beautifully nestled on a private beach with water that was so blue. The scenery from the beach was that of the gorgeous hillside. It was very tranquil. The hotel itself was surrounded by lush tropical gardens and the lobby had a very modern hip vibe to it. The room had a really nice view of the beach and again the vibe was modern chic. The mattress was my favorite part of the room, it was so comfortable. The pool grounds were beautiful and well maintained. I was very impressed by the bar staff and the reception staff. They were very attentive and friendly to their guests. Cons: The in room service was not great. They did not replenish bottled waters (which you need to drink unless you enjoy being on the toilet) mini bar and floor towelThe bathroom was not cleaned well. We also ordered breakfast in bed and it was 45mins late. Overall the food was just ok. For the amount of money you pay it should be awesome. Also the service was hit or miss. Some people were so friendly and helpful, and some were just down right rude. For example it was about 9:30pm and a group of our party wanted a snack so we went to buffet, it closes at 10p, they would not seat us. We literally had to just walk in, take a plate of food and eat in lobby of the world cafe. The overall cleanliness of hotel was just ok. I have been to all inclusives where it is almost sparkling it's so clean. Conclusion:Overpriced for mediocre food and service but beautiful location and beach.

    "Secrets St James "
Very pretty resort. The food was good, not the best. Choices in the restaurants were few, but the buffets provided more choices. The beach is very small yet if you can find a lounge there is a nice view of sea and mountains. There was some entertainment, but no shows. The house band was phenomenal. There was noisy construction going on for 15 hours a day on the St James side adjacent to the upgraded preferred unit. It made it impossible to have the peace and quiet on the beach. We had to walk a half a mile over to Wild Orchard to have quiet at the beach or the pool and not feel like we were in midtown Manhattan. We were not told about this prior to our trip by either the hotel or Travelocity. If you go to St James and have this problem, complain. All in all, if you are looking for a party atmosphere, go somewhere else.

    "Nice resort but poor entertainment"
Overall a beautiful resort with friendly staff and nice rooms. A few things could be improved: The variety of food at the buffets is very limited. What there is to choose from tastes good enough but it gets boring pretty quickly. The specialty restaurants are pretty decent but service is crazy slow. Not that we were in a hurry but there were 20 minute gaps between courses. The Japanese steakhouse was an exception and was worth making the reservation. The biggest problem is the entertainment (or lack of it). They have a small entertainment staff that seems to try hard but they need help. The pool games are poorly run and way too loud music. During the Super Bowl and the beach party they were having all kinds of problems with audio equipment that kept cutting out. One of the shows had a "traditional native dance" that was set to electronic dance music. The karaoke in the evening had none of the songs we wanted to sing. The "disco" usually had about 12 people sitting around in a room that has 200 seats in it. It's a huge showroom that never has any shows. One night there was a singer that was pretty good but 85% of the seats were empty. At 11pm there is supposed to be a piano sing-along but it was very hit-or-miss. It was a bummer and we usually went to bed around 11:30. Last thing: If you like long walks on the beach, don't stay here. The sand is nice but the beach is blocked off at both ends. It's only about 400 yards long. Stay in Negril if beaches are your thing.
