Failed VRBO Stay at Chrismtas

I booked this home for Christmas with my family but when we arrived the host family was still in the house. There was some miscommunication where they said they didn't even have a VRBO account. I was traveling with my husband and elderly mother, and because of this mishap were left on the street with no place to stay for the holiday. I then had to spend the next 3 hours on hold on the phone trying to talk to customer service to help relocate us, instead of spending holiday time with my family. It was a horrible experience and I'm never going to use VRBO again. We finally got reimbursed after a lot of headache and long calls and then had to stay in a hotel for christmas. I don't know what happened for this mishap to occur but it was an experience I hope never happens to anyone.
